sata controller/driver

Question

Hi, I have a question about my dimension 4700. The built in hard drive is an SATA drive, yet in my device manager , I can only find reference to an Ultra-ATA or standard ATAPI controller and driver. Shouldn't there be a reference to an SATA controller and SATA drivers?

See actually this is a reference to the Contorllers ...this controller referes to both the serail and parellel ..
if u notice there will be one more option under n could u let know that is the other option under that .

Under the controllers, there are two entries called 'primary ide channel' What I am wondering is, shouldn't the controller, as well as the drivers show up as SATA, rather than standard ATA?

Usually those are the defaults devices in the system .. n the serial will normally diplayed .. n this is a good queation that u have asked u can also try n check in other systems that are with the with serial ata hdd .. n any difference lets us know.

you should have a SATA ACHI controller I would think. Sound like the same thing I ran into when I installed xp incorrectly without hitting f6 during installation and not installing the sata and raid controllers. the hard drive showed up as a IDE drive and not a SATA. Thats Correct .. if you are installing windows by pressing F6 using the sata drivers then your will show as sata .

Hi all,

I was wondering

I too installed XP without pressing f6 1st ...

.. so if i re install selecting R to repair an installation,
and i press f6 through that routine,
should i have the SATA controllers properly installed then ?

I just don't want to start from scratch... too many programs installed allready...
