Seeking clarification before I replace dead HDD

Ok, Inspiron 8100 512MB RAM, XP Home.

The original 30 gig HD has virtually died after two and a half years :-(

Dell original replacements are expensive as far as I can work out, so I shall shop around for a new one.

I shall be looking for a 2.5" 9.5mm drive.

What is the max. capacity and speed that will work in this model please?

If any readers are in the UK (I am) links to places to buy would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Any capacity drive you choose will work fine.

Great. Thank you for a prompt reply. Will I notice that much difference between 5400rpm to 7200rpm? How will this extra speed translate in real world timing?

Thanks again.

You'll probably notice the difference but you may also notice the heat (so check to see where the drive is located on your model).  8mb caches are rather nice as well :)

Yes you will notice the difference in the speed of the drive. And no there is no more heat generated by a 7200 drive.
