Sonic Solutions DLA - How do I uninstall?!!!

Question

After upgrading from XP to Vista Home Premium, the Sonic Solutions DLA no longer loads on startup, and generates a driver compatability warning (several warnings in fact!)   I have uninstalled all my Roxio products and tried uninstalling the DLA, but it refuses to uninstall!   I don't even want it on my PC. Its not like I wanna get it working, I just wanna take it off.   I tried disabling the startup process in msconfig, but it still starts up regardless. I also tried removing the actual drivers manually from the DLA folder, but of course the new Vista security means I cant even delete a folder (even though im administrator of the machine).   Any ideas how I get rid of this VERY annoying driver?

Hi KingKobra,See if this Sonic article on a 'clean' uninstall will help. It does require some editing of the registry. Please click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 13-0, article 24.Best Regards! You can disable DLA without actually uninstalling it. All you do is go to My Computer and right click on the drive DLA is assigned to, and uncheck it.   It was a long time ago when I did this so if I am forgetting a step I apologize. I can remember the issues it gave me though. I couldn't install any kind of program that had multiple cd's unless DLA was disabled. What a pain.   Anyway, good luck!

Hi Jason,I believe you are close enough my friend, the steps:Disable Sonic DLA.1) Click the 'Start' button2) Double Click on the 'My Computer' icon3) In the 'My Computer' window, right click on the CD device then choose 'Properties'4) On the 'CD Drive Properties' screen, click on the DLA tab, then remove the checkmark from 'Enable DLA on your drives'5) Click the OK button, then restart computerAlso, I believe KK wants rid of it completelyBest Regards! have a new dimension 9200 and had to uninstall drag to disc from add remove programs cos everytime pc started i got message saying windows had to disable driver as it is not working ok with this version of windows plus i dont like the drag to disc thing anyhow.   running windows vista ultimate   and tried finding a up to date vista driver for sonic solutions DLA on manufacturers site but no luck,so it seems it needs a new vista driver to work properly

I have a new XPX 410 with Windows Vista Premium and I also get the Sonic Solutions DLA screen indicating 'this driver is blocked due to compatability issues', etc., etc.  I'd love to stop getting that to pop up, yet everything I've tried per solutions listed in the forums has not worked.  In fact, there is no DLA listed in the properties area after clicking on the various drives!  Any other ideas for me?

It's funny, I just bought a new XPS M1710 a couple days ago, and immediately got the same incompatability message just like everyone else. So much for Dell testing systems before they ship, huh??

Anyway, I contacted Dell tech support about this (live chat) and they disabled one Vista update (can't remember which one), and it completely got rid of the error message at startup.

So, in my particular situation, an update was the compatability issue, not the driver. Just to make sure this was the problem, I reinstalled the previously removed update after a day or two, and as expected, the error message came right back.

I am still going to try to uninstall both DLA and Drag to Disc since I find both programs produce more problems than not, but at least the driver error message is gone for now until I can figure out how to uninstall correctly.

Just uninstall Roxio Drag to Disk, that will fix your problem.

This is not a solution at.  I am experiencing this same problem.  Considering whether to convert back to Windows XP or keep this problematic Vista that needs alot of work.

Fabulous!  Worked like a charm, thank you Chris.    Note to Dell - Since this error was identified and corrected at least THREE WEEKS before I bought my new laptop, I would have expected that this patch would have already been on my system.  Instead, I spent countless hours of frustration and anger trying to figure out what was going on.
