sony cd-rw crx216e problems

hey guys, i am having a common problem here apparently with the cd rom not reading cd-rw's, and also not burning cd's... and just recently it spread onto my DVD-RW drive too which is a HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GRA-4120B... it reads regular cd's fine, i even made an image of a playstation game the other day in my cdrw, but when i put a blank cdrw in it says "D:\ is not accessible incorrect function" and it did work on my dvd-rw drive for a few days and now im getting the same message from there too... i've tried a few different kinds of cd-rw's thinking maybe it was the disc, but with no luck... any help would be great...
