Studio Hybrid blu-ray chopping...

I bought a refurbished Studio Hybrid on 05/18. Yesterday (07/10) I had my first chance to test it with a blu-ray disk (The Day the Earth Stood Still) with Dell Media Direct (updated to to current version). I found that it does not play smoothly at all. Every body could see the obvious chopping. I then installed powerDVD 9 ultra and that software played it without chopping BUT it could only play for 2 or 3 minutes and the computer got turned off automatically. I tried that ~10 times and it always shut the computer off.

The studio hybrid specs:

Studio Hybrid Desktop:

Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
-- 320 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
-- Slot Load Blu-ray Disc Combo (DVD+/-RW & BD-ROM)
-- 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz (2 DIMMs)
-- Dell Wireless Desktop Keyboard & Mouse
-- 125V Power Cord
-- 65W AC Adapter
-- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium

Now I am very disappointed with the computer since I bought it primarily to watch blu-ray disk movie. Does anyone have any suggestion? Could I still return it?

Congratulations on your recent Outlet deal ^^

My first thought was to have yah download the Optical drive driver, <<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>> and retest in media direct, Next I would suggest that you check the system bios event log. (reason I suggest that-- the hybrids can heat up in the confined space. the Hybrids much like the Optiplex FX160 seem to be for limited use, such as data entry and such, not necessarily for performance based applications. at least thats been my observation.

Thanks. I downloaded the drivers, unzipped it. BUT I can not install it. I got this message:Target Optiarc BC-5600S is not found correctly.

Any clue?

Give this a try, goto: <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060> and down to fix it for me. save and run that, then reboot the computer and try playing the dvd, and installing the driver for the drive. If it fails to work properly after that, I would advise that you follow the directions in the service manual <http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/140g/en/SM/drives.htm#wp1180142> and get the actual serial and part numbers off the drive itself it might not be the drive that was supposed to be with the system. (I've seen it before when someone orders a system with blu-ray and then swaps it out and returns the computer thats sold as a refurbished system on the outlet.) I hope this isn't the case. If it is, its going to be easier to return the system then to embark in getting that corrected.) Good Luck.

I tried microsoft "fix it for me" and rebooted the computer. When I tried to install the dell driver, I still got the error message:Target Optiarc BC-5600S is not found correctly.Do I really have to open the computer case to check the actuall serial and part numbers? I really don't want to touch that if I want to get a return to Dell. Could I still retun it given it's been almost 2 months since I ordered it.  I checked my device manager and the BD drive is "hl-dt-st dvdrwbd ca10n ata device". Any thoughts?
