Teac w58e

What the heck is going on with this product??????

It seemed to me it doesnt work so why are Dell still placing it into new machines??? i ordered mine on the 1/11/2004 here in the netherlands, oh i am so mad.

Phoned the tech support twice.

the first time i was told to upgrade bios and pull out the cables and put them back in and oh yes another coaster!( thats number 12)

second time i was told to use another brand of dvd+r, oh yes throw some more money away!!! then i asked if he new about the teac, then he laughed and said yes we know all about it.

I asked for another writer but i was told this was not possible, they are working on the problem and to phone back in a couple of months time!!!!!!!!!!!

Phoned up customer care for a new writer, but they said it was up to tech support!!! then got transfered around dell, got a manager on who then told me to write a letter to the directors!

so i will!!!!!!!!!!!

All a part from this my dimension 4600 is a great machine, but its like having a car with three wheels, great to look at and touch but it aint going anywhere!

Please Dell sort something out quick!

Hi David,
Unfortunately this drive is starting to look more and more like the issue with the NEC 1100.
This will most likely be wasting your time but what trouble are you having, and some of the steps you have tried?
Also, you may wish to post this as well in one of the Customer Care Conferences.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Hi ,

Well i am running Nero 6 all seems well , i can burn Dvd+rw but not Dvd+r, is this weird or is it just me?

I am using philips Dvd+r, lost 10 out of a spindle of 25. Had 5 good burns though, but its a bit expensive like this.

It sounds like i should send it back and ask for my money back, then buy a beter one, as its only 2 months old.

Funny how Dell are not sying anything about it, but they are quick enought to take the money

I gave up and bought myself a new Dvd writer a nec nd 2500. (Got it for 109 euros)

While i was taking out the teac drive i noticed that it had been put in as the slave, i was told that the dvd writer worked better as the master.

Could this be the answer to all our problems with the teac drive???

Its worth a try just swap the drives around and see if this works better!

and if no luck the go for the nec nd 2500, it works well for me!

David: No it is not that simple… The drive should be cable select whenever OS and other hardware will allow. There are about 5 pages of discussion here and everything including voodoo was tried.

Master & Slave is an urban legend holdover from W95 days. These things take a long time to die out.

The drive is a dog but keep your eyes on the forum as Dell will eventually get a fix tested and approved.

I just bought a new XPS system and I am having a lot of problems with this device too. I have already gone thru

about 8 DVD disks and at 1.50 each its starting add up. I used Nero and Roxio and neither one made any difference.

I simply got a bad piece of hardware. Dell has been very good to me in the past about swaping out bad hardware.

I plan to call them next week
