Unable to boot from xp-cd. Boot menu doesn`t include CD-ROM device.
Hi. I am trying to format my hd and reintall windows xp on my Dimension 8300. Unfortunately I am having some problems doing so. The problem is that when I push the F12 button to enter the boot-menu and boot from the cd-rom, the cd-rom is not available. This is what the Boot-menu tells me:
1. Normal
2. SATA Primary Drive
3. Primary master drive
4. Hard-Disk Drive C:
5. System Setup
6. IDE Drive Diagnostics
7. Boot to utility artition
When I enter the BIOS to boot from d: using Boot Sequence, this is what it says:
1. Hard disk drive c:
2. Diskette drive
3. CD-ROM device (not installed)
This makes no sense to me since the CD-rom works great in windows - I have no problem reading dvds and cds. I have tried to reinstall the drivers but that didn`t solve anything.

Hi Thobru,
See if the steps here are any different and will allow you to boot from the IDE drive. You should be using the Master drive, which would be the drive setting in the Top Bay.
