Unable to write DVDs

I have a Dell E520 with 2 CD/DVD drives one of which is supposed to be a DVD burner.   When I try to use the TSSTCorpCDRWDVD TS-H493A drive to backup data files on DVD it seems to ignore the prescence of the disk and says "please insert a disk into drive E".     I get that message while in Windows Explorer or if I am attempting the burn process from Nero.

I'm using new Memorex DVD-RW banks.   The drive seems to work OK writing CD-RW and plays back movie DVDs.  This is my 1st attempt to write DVDs.

The TSST TS-H493A is a CDRW/DVD-ROM Drive.  It is not a DVD Burner.  It can
read CD and DVD media, but can only write to CD media.  It cannot write to
DVD media.  User's guide is here ..............

I forgot to mention I'm using Windows XP Media Center and is fully up to date.

Thanks, I was afraid that might be the case.  The designation is not too clear especially to the untrained eye.  It's unfortunate XP couldn't have been a little more explicit about why it was rejecting the disk.  I also made a bad assumption that a Dell 521 that I bought subsequent to the 520, but that is currently in another state, and that I have been able to write DVD's on, had the same drives.  Apparently that is not the case.

Thanks again.
