"Uncorrectable Data Error..." Message
Greetings,
I have a friend with a Vostro 200 that was having a problem. Somehow, her profile became corrupt and she couldn't access any of her files. I booted into safe mode, created a new profile, copied all her personal stuff over to the new profile and she APPEARS to be fine. However, I have not yet deleted the old profile.
I ran the diagnostics and got the error message listed above on the Read & Verify tests. The exact messages were:
Read Test: Error Code 0F00:0244 Msg: DISK_0 - Block 245078515: Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.
Verify Test: Error Code 0F00:1A44 Msg: DISK_0 - Block 245078515: Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.
Does this mean the drive is definitely failing and needs to be replaced ASAP? Or does it just merely point to a bad block on the drive, but the rest is okay? I've seen other posts about this message that pointed to a drive failure, but those were computers that weren't able to boot.

Error Code 0F00:0244 indicates the hard drive has failed and you need to replace it.
If there's a dell warranty in effect, you should contact Dell's Technical Support for a replacement.
No warranty, you need to buy an internal, SATA, 3.5", 7200rpm hard drive, this can be purchased from any online, or local computer store.
