Thanks for the link to Partition Logic. I had to download the demo of BurnNero to burn the bootable CD I needed from the Partition Logic ".iso" file, as I couldn't figure out how to do it with the bundled Roxio or with Windows, but that is probably just ignorance.
Partition Logic is a scary experience. There is almost no documentation, other than how to burn the boot CD with Nero. Also the mouse movement was very buggy, not inspiring much confidence. After I converted the D: drive to free space using the WIndows Disk Manager, Partition Logic also no longer saw the 3.6 GB restore drive, which it had seen before, but it did show it graphically. I checked again in Windows and it was still there, so I figured not seeing it was another bug.
When I went to resize the partition, I got a warning that this feature wasn't well tested. In any case, I decided to take the chance and go ahead and see if it would work, as I don't have any important files on here yet. So I gave it the clusters to add, and let it do it's thing. It got up to 49% on the progress bar. Then there was a very long pause (10 - 15 minutes, it did warn it would be some time) while it rewrote "$logfile" or something similar to that with no movement of the progress bar. But all of a sudden it was done, and when I rebooted in Windows lo and behold I had all of the new space on the C: drive, and Windows Disk Manager said it was healthy. The programs I've used so far seem to work fine, and the bootup went ok, so I think I am homefree, and didn't have to spend the $70 to use Partition Magic once.
So again, thanks again for the link. Problem solved, adrenaline levels restored to normal.

Exact version of Ghost
Full details of all error messages
What you were trying to do,
Clone to internal drive, external drive, backup
Use Ghost over Network
With some more information womeone may be able to help.

Hi,
Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director are the programs of choice, in that order, for resizing the partitions on a hard drive.
This program is free

I have not used it as I have Partition Magic so cannot comment on the program.
Do you know anyone who has Partition Magic, the hard drive does not need to be permanently installed in a computer to be able to use the program.
