Upgrading hard drive

Hey!

I have a Inspiron 8600 XP Home and I wanna upgrade my hard drive from 40 GB to a higher one to about 80 GB. I just got this lap top around July of this year.  I was just wondering if I could upgrade and how I can upgrade it and all other info such as cost and so on.  Thank YOU!

You can use any 2.5" 9mm drive you wish. An 80G drive will run $150-175 depending on speed - no one is volume-shipping 7200 rpm drives over 60G, though, so 5400 will likely be the limit. There are a gew 100G drives now appearing on the market - they're relatively expensive and can be slower (4200) than the lower-capacity drives.

I heard Hitachi are going to release a 100gb drive like ejn63 said, so maybe you should wait a while, the smaller ones may come down in price
