Using Hard Drive in D/Dock Adapter (M60) for 'Clone' Backup?

Question

I Fear my hard drive has failed (BSD XP Error Stop: 0x000000ed) and I will be calling Dell Support in the AM tomorrow to assist diagnosis. Using CHKDSK /r command fails (Recovery Console) and FIXBOOT doesn't work.

I'm thinking that I may order a Hard drive that will fit into the device listed below (I have it for my floppy):

D/Bay External Media Bay Latitude X1 / X300 / D400 / D410 / D800 / Notebooks, D-Port APR and D-Dock

Manufacturer Part# 1Y085
Dell Part #: 313-1669

The only drives I found that appears to fit the D/DOCK footprint is below:

Are there other choices for using Module Bay Housing (I have found inexpensive 3rd party USB2 IDE Adapters which I may explore to recover my data from my drive if Dell is unable to restore it).

The D/Dock / Module Bay information on Dell Website is vague as far as available options. I want to clone my 60GBYTE Drive (40 MBYTE would be enough since it is partitioned), to avoid future disasters down the road. I would have thought bigger drives would be available, Anyone have recommendations?

The cheapest way is to get a COMP USA usb laptop whammy jammy for $20. It allows you to backup your drive to a desktop or another laptop with USB.

Apricorn has EZGIG clone options and Kits.

You can image your drive to the new drive and then swap them.

When you are done the kit acts as an external USB or PCMCIA drive enclosure.

Any 9.5mm hard drive (notebook drive 2.5') will fit into a Dell HDD D/Module. I usually leave the D/Module in my D/Dock, and do weekly disc images FAR faster than using an external USB enclosure.

I cannot find the Dell HDD D/Module you referenced. I was looking for it on Dell's Website and all I came up with was the D/Bay enclosure I have for my Floppy.

Where can I find a Dell HDD D/Module so I too can keep it in my docking station (I have a CD Drive in my docking station now which I rarely use)?

I saw a reference to this in one of your other post, but I looked all over Dell Website and couldn't find any reference to a HDD D/Module.

Ordered it all yesterday. Boy those 5X488 screws are very expensive! $4.00 ea! I fell over, had tech recheck the price, and that's what they came up as. How can anyone charge $4.00 per screw???

Thanks again Ofelas for the info, now I will be getting a Segate 60GBYTE drive to clone the 60Gbyte Travelstar 7200RPM drive in the laptop.

Also picked up a Firewire external 3.5" case and a Segate 160Gbyte Drive tio do my video work on. I tried Acronis and cloned my Dell Desktop, seems to work good, will try Drive Image for Laptop.
