Which socket to connect boot drive to ?
Do I connect boot drive to IDE1 socket or IDE2 socket on Promise Ultra 66 HD controller card ?

Just answered my own question. Found the furshlugginer manual. One connects the boot drive to the IDE2 socket, which conflicts with common nomenclature, where lower numbers mean higher importance... partition 0 is first partition, drive 0 is first drive. Shame on Promise for just stamping "IDE1" and "IDE2" on the controller card, instead of "Primary" and "Secondary"..

Hmmm . . I have my boot drive connected to IDE1 on the promise card and it works fine.

You are absolutely right. I was relying on the manual, which was misleading. Correct socket is IDE1, which becomes evident in the diagnostic messages given during boot, when drive assignments are reported.
