Why won't my computer boot

My home PC is a Dimension 8250 running XP that I haven't had any problems with since buying it 2-years ago.  That all changed this evening when I received a blue screen telling me to shutdown and reboot.  Now it won't come on at all.  The power light is green, but the computer is not responding.  I checked the diagnostic lights on the back and none are showing green or yellow.  Does this mean my pc is dead or is there some hope for it.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

it could mean that your motherboard is fried have you opened the tower and checked to see if you can find any fried transistors.

No beeps.  The hard drive light is on initially when I turn it on and I can hear it spinning, but after 15-20 seconds it goes the light goes out and there is nothing.  I do see the light on my ethernet connection blinking though.

Do you hear any "beeps" when you turn it on?

It sure sounds like the system board and/or the cpu has gone bad.

I checked under the hood and everything looks fine.  I don't see any fried transistors or anything else that might look odd.
