windows freezes

For some reason, while im using my Inspiron 4150, it will just freeze for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, but then resumes right where it left off.  I have the feeling that the hard drive is just starting to go bad.  But i was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and could tell me exactly what it is before i go replacing parts.  When it freezes, i am not running any real huge programs or anything too stressing on my pc.

What Vers of Windows are you running?

Have you ran a scan on the HD to see if there are any problems with it?

Do a HD cleanup first...Programs, Accessories, System tools, Disk Cleanup.

Run a scan Disk and Defrag., or If 2000 or XP goto My computer, right click on the C drive, click tools then check for errors. You will have to reboot to run the test.

i am running win XP Pro.  I reformat and install windows just about every 10 months.  So i dont think the freezing is due to my computer being bogged down with unused programs, and when i run the disk diagnostic, it doesnt come up with anything.  So that pretty much rules out all of your suggestions.
