XPS GEN5 Error Code 0F00:136C Please HELP

My computer has been really crazy lately.  I contracted a trojan.vundo virus, managed to eliminate it.  And then everytime I reinstall Norton, my Internet does not work.  I performed a diagnostic test, and received the error message 0F00:136C.  I have no clue how to fix this!  Someone please help.

I am not entirely sure how to do that.  More or less, just where to start the process from.
Thanks.

Installing is not a problem, it's just the wipe out that I have never done before.  By the way, I really appreciate the help!

Thanks

go to this link

Go here ...the reason for using gateways utilty is there is no manufactures name for your drive and gateways will work on all drives.
its the same utilty that Western Digital uses.....

download this utilty, it would be best to do it on a computer that is not infected with a virus.......down load it to your desktop....
double click the file and follow the directions to make a bootable floppy (if you have a floppy drive) or a bootable cd (if you dont have a floppy drive)...once you create the boot disk, put it in your computer and reboot....when the gwscan page comes up you will not be able to use mouse...so you have to use the arrow keys to navigate.....using the arrow keys tab down to where you see write zeros to the drive....click enter.......then choose the option that writes to the entire drive and follow the onscreen instructions......this will take about  1/2 to 2 hrs to complete...when your done you should see an arror code...the code should be 0000...if the error code contains any numers other than zeros..call dell their is a problem with your hard drive...if your error code is 0000 then just follow directions to exit  program.........reboot......now place your windows cd in the cd rom ...reboot.......follow omscreen instructions to create parttions....you can make one or as many as you like ( I would create at least 2)...after creating partitons..follow directions on formating......now all you do is follow on screen instructions to load windows......when complete...load all your dell drivers and programs you want......thats all their is to it..let me know if I can help...if you need to be talked through this you can PM me your email and I will send you my toll free phone number and I can walk you thrue this or answer any questions you may have while doing this.............dont post your email on an open forum ...always PM it to the person you wish to give it to......you dont want everyone to have acess to it........let me know how things are going..

Installation

1.  If you have not already done so, locate and double-click the 7514539.exe file that you downloaded from the Gateway Web site.  This file may be located on your desktop, depending where the file was downloaded to.  Files are extracted to the hard drive and the GWSCAN menu appears.

2. Select the appropriate option from the GWSCAN menu.

* If making a bootable floppy diskette, select option 1.  Insert a blank, formatted floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.

Note the following:

  a. The floppy disk must be blank to create a bootable floppy disk.
  b. The floppy disk cannot have been formatted from a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows NT(r), or Windows XP.

* If extracting to the hard drive, select option 2.  The files extracted will need to be placed on some type of bootable media.

* If you wish to create a bootable CD, an ISO and NRG image of the CD is available in the C:\Cabs\7514539 folder as filename 7514539.iso and 7514539.nrg.  An application such as Roxio Easy CD Creator (iso file) or Nero (nrg file) can be used to create a bootable CD with this CD image.

3.  Remove all bootable media from the computer, except for the media that was created in step 2 above.

4.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, select Restart the computer, and then click
Yes or OK.

5.  The computer restarts to the bootable media and runs the GWSCAN utility automatically.

6.  The GWSCAN utility starts.

Program Use

Running GWSCAN 5.09:

1.  By default, the Select Drive option is selected.  To see a list of all hard drives installed and the current status of each hard drive, press ENTER.

2.  On the Select New Drive screen, all of the installed hard drives are listed.  Use the arrow keys to select the desired hard drive, and then press ENTER.  The screen displays the status details and verifies which hard drive has been selected.
To return to the main menu, press the ESC key.

3.  For each hard drive that displays a status of DRIVE NOT TESTED, use the arrow keys to select the hard drive.  From the main menu, select the Quick Test option.

4.  The Quick Test screen states how many hard drives the utility detected.  If the expected number of hard drives is listed, press any key to continue.  The next Quick Test screen states that the test takes about 2 minutes to complete.  Press the R key to run the test or press ESC to return to the main menu.

5.  At the end of the test, a message appears.

a. If the drive passed, a "TEST COMPLETED WITHOUT ERRORS" message appears.
b. If the drive does not pass, an error message appears, stating what type of problem was encountered.

6.  Press ESC to return to the main menu.

7.  From the main menu, select QUIT to close GWSCAN.

8.  At the prompt stating that the computer needs to be reset to reinitialize the BIOS Setup Utility and hard drives, remove the bootable media and then press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, or turn off the computer, and then turn on the computer.

Note: GWSCAN 5.09 can also be used to write zeros to IDE hard drives.  This option removes all data from the IDE hard drive. This can be useful when there is serious file corruption or if the computer has a virus.

Note: This will run GWSCAN version that came installed on the Drivers CD.

Running GWSCAN from the Drivers CD:

1.  Place Gateway Drivers CD version 22.3 or later in the CD/DVD drive.  If a window opens, close it.

2.  Restart the computer.

3.  During restart, from the Select an option menu, select 2. Boot from the CD-ROM, and then press the ENTER key.

4.  From the next Select an option menu, select 1. English, 2. French, or 3. Spanish, and then press ENTER.

5.  On the Gateway Utilities Main Menu screen, press the X key to select Exit to a Command Prompt.

6.  At the command prompt, type: Gwscan.exe.  Press ENTER.

7.  From the GWSCAN 5.09 - Data Lifeguard Diagnostics main menu, use the DOWN ARROW key to select Quick Test, and then press ENTER.

8.  On the Quick Test screen, to begin the test, press the R key.

9.  When the test is complete, to return to the main menu, press the ESC key.

10.  Additional options may be selected at this time, or to exit the program, use the DOWN ARROW key to select Quit.

11.  Restart the computer.

Note: GWSCAN 5.09 can also be used to write zeros to IDE hard drives.  This option removes all data from the IDE hard drive.  This can be useful when there is serious file corruption or if the computer has a virus.

Removal

As the utility is located on bootable media, when restarting the computer, remove the bootable media so that the computer starts to the hard drive.

Troubleshooting

If you have difficulties extracting the files or running the GWSCAN utility, download the file to different media, and then follow the installation steps in this document.

GWSCAN 5.09 has not been tested or qualified on any newer SATA hard drives. For newer SATA hard drives to be detected, a newer program would need to be used. Hard drive manufacturers typically provide their own hard drive utilities on their Web site.

Reason for Update

Adds support for some SATA IDE hard drives.
