Dell Support Assist keeps installing SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools over and over again
Every time an update scan is run with Dell SupportAssist, it keeps coming up with SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools again and again. Despite running the installation and restarting each time, the next time a scan is run, it comes up again. There is NOTHING wrong with the PC. You need to update your Dell's SupportAssist update definitions.

Tried uninstalling SupportAssist and its Remediation and OS plug ins, deleting the cache and any leftover files, restarting the PC. After running the reinstall of SA and its plugins, whenever I start it now, it just crashes. Sometimes it will say "We're working on it" and crash. Occasionally, it'll get to "We're still working on it" and crash. It's completely useless now.

On the odd occasion that SupportAssist interface does actually open and the update utility is run, it keeps on finding "SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools" and taking 2:28 minutes to complete the install each time. Even if it's not closed and the PC is not restarted, and the update utility is run again, it again finds the same SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools update - even though it just installed it - and runs the install all over again. None of the troubleshooting steps has done anything, except now SA crashes too.

Hi brianko722:
I removed all SupportAssist-related software from my Inspiron 5584 after my service warranty expired because they were too buggy and consumed too much RAM and CPU (see my 08-Feb-2025 post in ygil's BSOD Issues After Windows Updates for further details) so apologies in advance if the following doesn't help you solve your problem.
If you haven't already done so, disable Fast Startup as instructed in AdvancedSetup's tutorial Disable-Fast-Startup in the Malwarebytes forum and then re-boot a few times to ensure the setting change takes effect. The Fast Startup power option (also known as hybrid boot-up / hybrid shutdown) is enabled by default in Win 8.x and higher but it can sometimes interfere with software updates and loading of drivers and services at boot-up and cause all sorts of unexpected glitches and problems.
If that doesn't solve your problem post back and let us know your Dell computer model, Windows operating system [open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver to find the version and OS build number], antivirus, and BIOS version. To find your current BIOS version open a Run dialog box, enter msinfo32 to display your System Information, and look for the field named "BIOS Version / Date" in the summary. Also let us know if your Dell service warranty has expired.
What are the full version numbers of your Dell SupportAssist v4.x and Dell SupportAssist Remediation v5.5.x (a.k.a. Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery or System Repair) shown at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features (i.e., not at Settings | Apps)? What version of Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools is SupportAssist attempting to install?
-----------
Dell Inspiron 15 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.6456 * Firefox v145.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.25090.3009-1.1.25100.9002 * Malwarebytes Premium v5.4.3.221-144.0.5414 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * My Dell v2.2.6.0 * Fusion Service 2.2.14.0

@lmacri YES - I quite agree. I've also tried repeatedly to stop it constantly thinking it has to re-install this 211MB OS Recovery stuff. OSR was also taking up around 40GB of my disk, just for it's 'snapshots', when I actually by far prefer the free Veeam Windows Agent package for imaging my hard drive.
I too will be removing all traces of this awful Dell software now my own 5420 is out of warranty.
