Driver Detection Not Available
Hello,
Lately, I seem to be unable to have the support website automatically scan my computer for driver updates. For the past few weeks, whenever I go to the support page for a specific model (desktop or latpop), I go to "Drivers & Downloads", I click on "Detect Drivers", it appears to search for a few seconds, then comes back with "Driver Detection Not Available". I'm seeing this happen on multiple systems. I've done a search for others with this problem and see multiple complaints about it over the past few years, but no solutions.
I do have SupportAssist on my own PC, but that's not working either.
Anybody?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Diamond-Bob:
This thread was started in Oct 2020 and discussed a known issue with SupportAssist v3.7.0.148 (rel. Sept 2020) where the "Get Drivers & Downloads" scan would not run correctly from the Home tab if the update check tried to install SupportAssist OS Recovery Tool v5.2.2.12981. The problem was eventually fixed in December 2020 when Dell pulled the buggy SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.2.2.12981 installer from their backend server and replaced it with a newer SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.3.0.13847 installer. Note that SupportAssist OS Recovery is sometimes called SupportAssist Remediation or System Repair.
There are several users reporting problems either installing or running the current SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 (rel. June 2022) - please read Atryeu1's SupportAssist Gives: An Unexpected Error Occurred about new system requirements for v3.11.4.29 (e.g. Microsoft .NET Runtime v5.0.17, a running Dell TechHub service, etc.) and a few troubleshooting steps you can try. Enter you unique Service Tag <here> on the Overview tab of your Precision 5540 support page - if the Dell Command | Update Windows Universal Application v4.6.0 (Dell-Command-Update-Windows-Universal-Application_DT6YC_WIN_4.6.0_A00.EXE, released 25-Aug-2022) listed on the Drivers & Downloads tab of your support page is recommended for your Service Tag and runs correctly after installation then I would suggest you use this Dell Command | Update utility to check for available Dell software and drivers and just wait for the upcoming SupportAssist v3.12.1.1.80 to be pushed out to your system to see what bug fixes it includes.

Note that the online "Check for Updates" scan on the on the Drivers & Downloads tab <here> of your Precision 5540 support page will not work correctly unless SupportAssist is installed and the "Get Drivers & Downloads" scan runs to completion from the Home tab of SupportAssist. I also discovered that the online "Check for Updates" scan doesn't work on the support page for my Inspiron 5584 if I disable Settings | Privacy | I Authorize Dell to Collect my Service Tag and System Usage Details Mentioned Above in my SupportAssist settings, even if Dell SupportAssist runs correctly - see my 04-Mar-2020 post in Caramel4406's Dell Support Website Doesn't Recognize That Support Assist is Installed.
