SA, Windows 1903, BSOD

Dell SA causes a BAD_POOL_CALLER blue screen crash on the new Windows 10 1903 update on my XPS 13-9360 (warranty expired on 11/27/18). Uninstalling Dell SA fixes the problem.

I got the same issue with my 3530 laptop. Not sure it's the SA issue, since have already back to 1809.

Hi Chenks76,

Looking at reliability monitor on Windows 1809, I see crashes of SupportAssist each day and these crashes were already occuring before my attempt to move to 1903. Maybe, they are causing BSOD on 1903. Exception code provided is 80131537 but I don't know to what it relates to. Bellow report, BR, EC.

It seems a common issue with Dell, did the software engineer aware this issue?

Hi Joe

I have 2 brand new Latitude 4890s. Both started Blue-screening after installing Dell Support Assist. They would BS within a second of each other when booted together and stayed in sync as I let them loop, so this should be something very easy to find.

Uninstalling Support Assist also stopped the cyclic BSs.

Re-Installing a Vostro 5481 from Windows 10 build 1903 image and can definitely confirm SupportAssist causing a BSOD Bad Pool Caller every single time the machine is booted. It's annoying because SupportAssist is so tightly integrated into the Dell Update system on the web site (the Dell Update app shows no updates), so one has to download drivers manually. SupportAssist build 3.2.2.119 was the latest version of SupportAssist installed until I removed it.

Also: what's the best way to get email updates on this issue so that I can be sure that it is fixed for my Vostro 5481 fleet so I can perform the 1903 upgrade safely?

echarlet,

Make sure all your drivers and the bios is updated on your computer. I have emailed the engineer for some information.

I have a Dell G7 7590 15 running Windows 10 Pro 1903 and I can confirm Dell SupportAssist is BSODing my system. bad_pool_caller.

Any word on when there will be a fix?

I installed SupportAssist via the Windows Store. It then updated itself to the latest version. Now it's working. No BSOD.

One issue remains. It keeps telling me there is an Intel UHD graphics driver and Intel chipset driver available for update, even though newer versions of both drivers are already installed.
