I too am having issues with Support Assist not loading. I can't even get past "get drivers and downloads". I tried doing the "quick test" as it was suggested on the support page. "Quick test" stops sometime during the second phase of "gathering your tests".
The last time support assist ran was October 7, 2018. It was supposed to run automatically but when I started having so many problems, I decided to run it manually. That's when I realized it hadn't been running at all since October.
I foolishly contacted Dell. They don't acknowledge the problem we are having, but for a fee (since I'm out of warranty) they will fix it. Lol.
I have own several Dell laptops and I don't use Support Assist. I don't see the benefit.
It's just another piece of software clogging up cpu time.
I simply back up the hard drive at least after each major Windows update.
