IDR is not a Symmetrix device type. Are you by chance working for a healthcare customer and working with Meditech? The Meditech healthcare Electronic Medical Record (EMR) application uses the term IDR to refer to a backup module that is loaded on a server.
In a Symmetrix environment the IDR process will use BCVs/Clones as a backup source.
