VMAX + Celerra VG8
Just trying to get some clarification since most of this information is hard to dig up.
I have a VMAX which already has two ThinPools setup, One configured R5 15Krpm FC (about 20TB available) and one configured R5 7200RPM 1TB drives.(about 100TB available). These pools are for general use and other servers will be using them. I am only looking at presenting 3TB FC and 20TB SATA to the VG8. EMC set up the Celerra initially and it is booting from the VMAX
From other posts I've read, I see that you need to fully allocate TDEVS/ luns to a gateway box and let the Celerra do it's thing. Do I still need to use emulation=celerra-fba like I have in the past?
Also, we are going to be upgrading to enginutiy 875 code to enable FAST 2... Wondering if that would play well w/ the Celerra or should I be doing something entirely different? (Removing Devs from the Thin VP Pools and creating separate ones only for the Celerra). Hopefully it wouldn't come down to that.
Just trying to get some professional opinions.
Thank you,
B

Right, but I don't have access to Dynamox's brain in powerlink
I'll see what I can dig up and make sure I post back here with results

Dedicated FA7/8/9/10 G1.
The Gateway _was_ installed but no space was provisioned by emc with an exception of the Celerra OS luns.

gateways are not customer installable, that's probably why you are not getting a lot of feedback. Are you dedicating FAs for this Celerra ?

The good-old-way should be fine, not ideal, but OK
The only docs I've seen is that if you are carving from Thin Pools to fully allocate and allow the celerra to do its magic behind the scenes. Another thing I'm curious about is when we enable FAST 2 in 875 code, if it will play nice w/ the Gateway...although I am guessing like the Clariion I could turn auto-teiring off if needed.
Fun stuff. Please let me know if you can find any other docs. I've been peeling through the partner pages in powerlink, but if you want you can direct message me if you find something confidential...

Anyone have input on this? Also discovered that Virtual Provisioning features don't seem to want to work because I can't put the FA's the Celerra is zoned to in a Port Group (due to VLCX not being set). I'm guessing this is 'normal' and I'll have to do the masking the old way, but it's just more steps to take....

as a partner you have access to a lot more than i do
...i don't work for EMC so your best bet would be to contact your local TC/CE or try the support chat.

if you are dedicating FAs for Celerra, then i don't see why you would need ACLX enabled, anything that's mapped to these FAs will be visible by Celerra. So i would try to map the devices the good old way. What i can't seem to find any documentation about is if you have to use dedicated pool for Celerra or you can mix devices with other open systems.

Did anyone find the answer to the following questions:
Can an VG2/VG8 attached to a VMAX, use the following:
thin luns, from a shared storage pool with other OS's ? (tdevs)?
think (tdevs) from a shared storage pool ?
Do I still need to use emulation=celerra-fba like I have in the past?

NAS
- For NAS version 6.0.36.4 control and data LUNs can be created on thick or thin LUNs (fully allocated) provided the storage group they belong to does not have a FAST policy. Diskmark will be blocked to any device residing in a FAST enabled storage group.
