LCC Firmware Upgrade
Hi,
I have a Dell PowerEdge r720xd. It's currently have LCC firmware version 2.40.40.40, my OS is VMWare esxi 6.0. Can anyone please provide me with the correct link for the firmware update I need? Also any instructions on how to upgrade? The link I was given in a previous thread seems to be for Windows. Thanks.

It will by using the iDRAC web GUI. If you use that, it's completely OS agnostic and the .EXE should work in most any scenario. This is because the host OS isn't accessed at all.

Hello pwilson82,
I see at this time you just want to update the LifeCycle. The DRAC and LCC are a combined update.
Download this file and execute it to extract files
File iDRAC_2.65.65.65_A00.exe : https://dell.to/3cw6fq2
Log into the DRAC and on the Update and Rollback link supply the extracted firmimg.d7 file.
The DRAC will reboot, not the host, for the update to apply. Give about 3-5 minutes and log back into the DRAC in a new browser tab.
Please let me know if this helps.

It says that it is for Windows. My system is running VMWare esxi 6.0. That wouldn't work, would it?

Hello,
Could you clarify on what you're looking to upgrade? If you're just looking to bring the server up to date for everything, I'd look at the bootable .ISO linked below. If you're just looking to upgrade the iDRAC/LCC firmware, you can still use the .exe package. You would just need to provide it to the iDRAC using the Firmware Update section of the web GUI.

I'm looking to just upgrade the iDRAC/LCC firmware. Where would I get just that exe file? It looks like the link you gave me was for the iso.

Hello,
The message failed with this error. Any suggestions?
Message: RED007: Unable to verify Update Package signature.

Looking at this article, what you're doing should be working. You might consider restarting the iDRAC and trying again.

However, if that doesn't work, I'd look at updating using the Lifecycle controller's "Platform Update" option. I haven't seen this error populate within there before.

Are you saying to reset the iDRAC? Or reboot the entire host?

You'd want to start with only restarting the iDRAC. If that doesn't work out though, that's when you may want to consider booting to the LCC to run the update.

It failed again even after an iDRAC reset. If I'm already on LCC Firmware version 2.40.40.40, shouldn't this package already be able to be verified?

That was my interpretation of the article, too. However, with it not working, I'd recommend testing another method, such as the Lifecycle Controller. I normally recommend the bootable .ISO, but that updates the whole platform and doesn't give you the option to opt out of updates.

How do I boot the LCC to run the update?

Hey,
to boot into the LCC you have to press F10 while the systems POST screen is displayed.
Then simply follow the instructions in this video: https://dell.to/32BSlj8
Best regards,
Stefan
