Solved:LC is in recorery mode

Hi,

One of our Poweredge R740xd has been resturen from datacenter for clean install. now when we start the server to go to the LC for OS deployment it shows that LC is in recorery mode.

Bios version is the last version 1.6.13

I did access the server with idrac and in the logs can see one time this error:

ifecycle Controller (LC) is unable to complete a requested task or function and prevented the boot process from completing on multiple attempts. LC is in Recovery Mode.

Any idea how to correct this issue?

Use F2 Setup, select iDRAC Configuration, and select Lifecycle Controller Settings. Updating Lifecycle Controller clears the Recovery mode.

What I usually recommend to people it to disable, then re-enable the Lifecycle controller, which can be done through command line.

racadm set LifecycleController.LCAttributes.LifecycleControllerState 0

That will disable the controller. You can then run:

racadm set LifecycleController.LCAttributes.LifecycleControllerState 1

To turn it back on. There is a third state, 2, which corresponds to recovery mode.

Dylan,

I'm not the original poster but this fixed my problem, thanks for providing this.  I got an error installing a BIOS update (it said something on the lines of "System Services is disabled") which lead me to this (https://www.dell.com/community/PowerEdge-Hardware-General/R720-BIOS-update-issue/m-p/4632763#M44012) which lead me to realize the controller was in recovery mode, once I followed your instructions in an admin command prompt (I do have OMSA installed, I'm not sure if that's required or not) I was able to get the BIOS to update (I did restart first to make sure iDrac wasn't in recovery mode anymore, it wasn't).

Thanks again!
