2.1 problems
I updated to 2.1 today, and a few things have bugged me. This involves; my "back", "menu" and "home" keys flashing 3/4 times after each minute or so.
My g-sensor seems to be mirrored, from left to right for games like doodle jump (means i tilt the screen left to go right, and tilt right to go left). However landscape works for other apps, but then that could be Doodle Jump. This bugs me, mainly because I ran the leaked 2.1 until today, which worked flawlessly and decided to get the newest build today via the system update feature. However, the update doesn't work very well. I've done a factory reset, but I still get the "dodgy" g-sensor bug as well as the flashing buttons.
I also think my texts get recieved far slower too. Anyone experience the same thing, or can explain the flashing lights?

Thanks for this advice. I tried this but during the update I got "FOTA model name mismatch." Any ideas ?
I'm still 1.6 with flashing keys.

I got this problem last month when updating to 2.1. You got you model directly from dell right? (because Dell models do that) I had to root, recover and fastboot 2.1 onto my phone. Your best bet is to call Dell and talk to them about the FOTA model name mismatch error.
However, Try my previous post out, follow the instructions to get rid of the flashing lights. May work.

Perhaps that update file is for O2 streaks only - not for Dell direct sales?

Yeah but a formerly rooted streak with a changed FOTA model name should run it. The old 2.1 build I had ran fine!
This ones near enough useless!

Just a quicky for everyone's benefit before upgrading from 1.6 to 2.1. The file you download has to be named "Update.pkg" and in the root directory on the MicroSD. I found that out when I eventually discovered theuser manual on the card.

In view of the 2.1 problems I have started looking for a possible alternative but I just spotted this on the Desire: http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/o2-starts-android-22-update-for-htc-desire-and-then-suspends-it-50000641/

Give Up!, ask Dell for a refund and buy an HTC Desire instead and the greater benefit of android froyo 2.2 and a customer service that knows what they are talking about and will spare no expense in resolving the problem.

This is were the problems arise, network operators want to brand and customize their handsets and make a mess of it all, most of the time they leave it to the likes of HTC to sort out. HTC non branded Desire works fine, but as you will see from every operators forum the operator has managed to break it. Network operators you are already charging for using your networks and making vast profits out of it! Stop being greedy and stop trying to fix whats not broken. And with the case of the Dell streak, mobile networs! when you go to bed with a supplier wear protection and not act surprised when mistakes happen.
Wonder how many days or minutes it took Dell from concept to market the Dell Streak, very rushed job too little too late and made a total mess of what potentially could have made apple wince.
Question now is what's going to happen with the Dell Streak? Dells action so far is to bury its head in the sand and hope it will go away. There are a lot of very unhappy streak owners out there, some like me who got their streak from their network operator only to be left with a pretty looking next to useless phone, or those who paid top dollar and brought direct from Dell in the mistaken beliefe that Dell was commited to its customers. This is going to be a hard act for Dell to recover from. Either a mass recall or bug free software and free 32GB memory cards for everyone who experienced a problem. What ever the answer its going to cost a lot not just money bet ones reputation too.

Its Official Dell Own the 3 wise monkeys!!
Hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil! kind of sums up the Streak fiasco. I think it's going to be a cold day in hell before they admit the monkeys who marketed and worked on the Streak got it wrong.
I think we would all like to see Dell drop Android completely as they don't have a clue about it and stick with what they do know.
Keep feeding them bananas boys !:emotion-2:

Wow! even more censorship from Dell, they have deleted an entire forum discussion link I started about the bug ridden poorly coded could not care less about not working properly Dell Streak.
I would print their response but then they would ban me from the forum. So much for the freedom of speech. Dell must be full of illiterate morons, first they censor words that are in the dictionary, then censor the truth aboutthe product. We want our money back and compensation for the fiasco you put us through

Oh and just in case what you are wondering what happened to an informative thread Well Dell deleted it because we know the truth.
And if you want to know why you cannot sync with your pc the answer is here!
Title : Handhelds:Dell Mini 5 Operating System
Version : A00
OEM Name : Dell
OEM Ver : A00
Computers : Mobile Electronics - Mini 5
Oses : Android Donut 1.6,
Languages : English, English (UK), French, German, Spanish

2.1 is Android Eclair, one does not talk to the other, pretty simple really, even a one legged blind monkey could have spotted that error, could be Dell are using Chimps, this would explain the oversight.
So when you next call Dell or your network provider you can tell them why the sync don't work and to employ monkeys not Chimps.

Well, I'm probably going to end up calling Dell. But guys, just know that this thread has gotten pretty popular as I was browsing problems of 2.1 on various sites I found this: -
http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/dell-streak-owners-angry-as-android-2-1-update-is-full-of-bugs-2010097
at least we're getting our point across. And to save Dells own backs, they should in theory provide an update that's actually fully functional.
