Hey, so I took a quick look around the support site for the Dell DJ 2 and it looks like the files under applications are all firmware updates, not actual drivers. I'm surprised Windows 7 didn't just install a generic driver for it? When you plug it into the computer does Windows say anything? If after a few seconds, you go into my computer where all your drives are listed, do you find anything that may say 'unknown usb drive' or 'usb drive' or anything of the like?
I also took a look at the manual and there is some Dell DJ Software that is listed that may contain a proprietary driver that was built in.

Appreciate your response. I'll D/l the suggested "driver" in the link you provided. It may take a few days before I get in touch with the friend who has the device, but once I do, I'll report back on the success/failure of that particular 'driver".
Well, still haven't found the driver I need, but with your help. each bit of information is getting me closer to this goal ( I think) so, what I have found is Windows/Dell supported this driver up until WinXP. So, now, I've been searching but would ask ...Where do I go to find a list of compatible drivers that Win7 will accommodate? been told to check the manufacturer of the device, but to my knowledge, Dell produced the original driver(?). The DELL driver is/was 1.02.03A00. Would appreciate any help for this is a good device still in good working order. Oh, BTW, if this helps, Windows would recognize this device as a HDD, for that's the way Dell designated it be.
