No but my speaker phone sucks; when I first got it it was much better.  This is a very poorly engineered phone.

"...Yesterday the speaker decided to stop working when making 'normal' calls. Switching the phone to speakerphone worked fine, but when making handheld calls the speaker didn't output anything.

Has anyone else come across something similar?"

I have the same problem, please help me ...

As you see, I had the same problem with internal and was going to try O2 shop for sorting the problem out! Luckily my brother-in-law has asked me about the problem and he had the similar problem with his iPhone and has found the solution!

Solution:

First of all, the problem is some sort of hardware confusion for your headset! Your phone thinks, the headset is connected and does not let the voice come out from internal speaker! For solving the problem, you need to play with the headset a bit (a few times plug the headset in and out! at the same time, call to a friend and turn off-on the phone). This is not related to headset logo (you may see it goes but that does not mean your phone understand is not pluged in).

Good news is this does not happen frequently!

Anyway, this saves me time and my phone is back! I do not need to go to O2 shop!

Another thing is about battery; if you have problem with battery life time, it will be useful to install a task killer! There are some battery saving application too!

I am heavy internet user (wifi mostly), and can save my battery at least for a full day... (3G eats the battery, otherwise you should be able to use the phone more than a day!).

As I said it seems like a little bug in Dell-Streak! Fortunately it is easy to solve it:

You need to plug and unplug your headset a few times, call to a friend plug and unplug your headset,

And then turn the phone off and then on!

If it does not work, do it again. This has happen a few times for me and always I solve the problem with this routine!

Appreciate workaround. However, this has caused me so much embarrasment in front of my boss. Atleast more then a DOZEN times :(

Almost everytime my boss called my Dell Streak 5, there was no sound.

I had to purchase a new mobile phone just to keep it for calling while I use this only as a Tablet. I wish Dell could refund my money as I have just realized, its indeed a poorly engineered phone, lacking on hardware quality in my Streak 5(Dell is excellent in Desktop/Laptops though).

You know, when I called my Boss for the first time using my new cheap (other manufacturer's mobile which I purchased to just make calls) mobile, he said on the first call "Have you changed your mobile, as I can hear you clearly for the FIRST TIME". Can it be more embarrassing than this ???

Wish I could get my refund. My love's over. Thank you and good bye.

I have faced this problem and it sucks.. sometimes you feel like slamming it on the floor..!!!  But the good thing is I got it replaced, and the bad thing is after having it replaced, in 3 months I am facing the same problem, I have asked them to replace it again.. !!  I placed the order to replace today.. Lets see how the other one works out..
