Dell Venue 8 Front Facing Camera Angle

I've been using Dell Venue 8 Pro for couple months now,

but I just noticed that while I tried to setup Skype video call,

front facing camera angle is way off from where my face should be,

I tried vertical, horizontal, up side down, but none of them got me correct angle for my face,

Any one having same issue?  Could it be a defect of camera?

Thank you for reply in advance.

Hi, Deadpoet. When you start the camera using the camera app, does it look the same as in Skype?

(I was surprised a while ago to find a website that had instructions for replacing the camera. These tablets HAVE to still be in warranty....)

Yes, whether I use camera app, or skype call, my face will not be close to center, rather off to one side.

I mean, i can still see my face because the angle is wide view, but then I'm not centered.  Is this normal for this device?

I was on a call with Dell rep. today, tried to explain the angle is not right, they even remotely got into my Venue and modified setting, but all they are saying is, camera is okay, you should be turning/adjusting angle of tablet yourself, or put the tablet further back?

I was like, why would I have to adjust my tablet angle to make myself centered when my screen is now not straight to me..

If this is a normal for this device, I will live with it, but if not, I'd like to get warranty service or get replaced.  That's all.

Hi, Deadpoet. Hehe - I'm working from a sample of only one - my tablet - so I hesitate to say that it's normal. But I've looked at it fairly critically, and I have no problem with the centering from the front camera. I do have the problem that I'm not lovely, but the tablet doesn't cause it. (Other than maybe a few grey hairs, I mean.)

However, I tried rotating the camera into landscape, and then the offset position of the camera IS noticeable, much more so than in portrait mode. Are you seeing the same?

I sometimes wonder if Dell thought these tablets would be mostly used in portrait mode. I use both, but normally use it in landscape - and portrait only for reading or using Google Earth. Almost all websites look better in landscape. I also haven't found any "gotta have" metro apps, so I'm most often on the desktop.

Like you mentioned, it's more noticeable in landscape mode, i assume it's because, now the camera is further left or right or something than portrait mode.

I found a new fact last night.  I had chance to test with iPad 2,

even iPad2's front facing camera angle was not right..  it was more similar to my Venue 8 pro's angle.

So maybe this is normal.

I asked my coworker (he bought the same one at the same time), and his Venue 8 pro's camera angle is same as mine.

So I'm being convinced that this is normal and have to live with it.  Oh well..

I'm sure that you are quite lovely, but that the DV8P simply is not showing it.   :emotion-5:
