Dell Venue Pro crashing

I received my Venue Pro yesterday (Dec 21st) and have been experiencing multiple phone crashes and freezing issues.

It seems to happen at random at this point, and has been getting worse as time goes on. This could be tied to downloading apps on the marketplace as that’s when I first noticed the problem.

The phone seems to heat up considerably around the lower back (above the micro usb port) right before the phone will either shut off, or the phone will display the on screen image frozen. I even removed the battery and experienced the same problem when the phone was just plugged in.

I owned the HD7 prior to purchasing the DVP, and found my experience with that phone to be almost flawless, but returned it in favor for the AMOLED screen, better form factor, and longer battery life. At this point im really starting to wonder if I made the right choice after all.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Wondering if this is software or hardware related.

I am going to play around with the phone a bit more, but I plan to contact Dell tomorrow in regards to the issue...

I just got off the phone with a Dell support rep.  She apologized for any inconvenience and told me that Dell is aware of the issue and they are working to identify the cause.  Once that is done they will roll out a solution which might include software update, phone swap, etc.

I am in their system  and set to be notified once they have a solution.

I suggest everyone with the problem call them and let them know; if not to get it fixed then to put pressure on them and get you into their system.

However frustrating DVP is, Dell's support comes through.  I just hope they do a real fix, not just a "duct tape" solution.

It is great that Dell's CSR are finally recognizing this is an issue.  I think enveryone should report this issue if they are experiencing it.  I just wanted to remind everyone to remain courteous when talking with the representatives.  They are people too, and deserve our respect.  There is really no need to express anger over this.  We need to view them as allies, not enemies.

Contact your state consumer protection agency. Mine is already on it, and the more that do, the better this gets. I was told by a Dell rep that they hope to have a fix in April. APRIL??? Four months after I bought this thing -- ridiculous and crooked.

I feel ya...i wasnt trying to be rude.  The WiFi issue doesn't seem to be the main problem right now.  The problem and main cause our frustration is mostly Dell's non-existent communication with us.  No emails, no letter no phone call no official word from them directly.  We have to dig through forums and make phone calls just to find out what the heck is going on.

So who else has lost faith in DELL's ability to deliver a single reliable product?  I know I have...and I am getting ready to return my DELL Venue Pro...

Honestly the phone looks great and the keyboard is amazing....but if it can't achieve its core functionality as a phone then it's just simply useless...

Here is a summary of my issues with this thing:

  • Freezing under wi-fi activity
  • Significant noise floor with low-impedance headphones (tested with Sennheiser CX-200)
  • Extremely poor photo quality under low lighting conditions (maybe it has something to do with the LED flash diffuser?)
  • Extremely poor cellular reception that seems to fluctuate depending on how the phone is held (my iPhone 3G delivered perfectly good call quality here but the DVP call quality is just terrible)

So basically....even though it looks great and I love the hardware....the DELL Venue Pro fails to perform a single function you would expect of any modern day smartphone, and I am left with no choice but to return it.

One thing that has really started to frustrate me lately is that while we can't get Dell to make any announcements about a solution to our problems with this phone, they've gone ahead and launched the Venue Pro and the Venue in other countries and they're planning on releasing a bunch of smartphones in the next year.

It's almost like they've given up on the original Venue Pro and they've moved on to other things. We were essentially guinea pigs for their first major phone release, and we took a leap of faith by forking over hundreds of dollars for an unproven phone from an unproven phone company (we look pretty stupid for that now), so you think they'd want to show some appreciation towards us. Well I'm not feeling very appreciated by Dell right about now.

Well I just got off the phone with a DELL representative named Melinda after getting my return process initiated.  The call took exactly 50 minutes and 7 seconds total, but about 36 minutes of that time was simply me sitting there on hold.  I called them for free via Skype anyway so I didn't really burn any minutes off my cellular plan, though 50 minutes is still a lot of time out of one's day.

The process was surprisingly painless and she didn't try to convince me to keep the phone after I had described all the issues I had been having.  I was simply asked whether I wanted them to mail me the return shipping label or if I would rather print it myself.

Hopefully I don't have any issues getting my money after I mail my Venue Pro back to them.

I have a theory.  I've heard that the dell venue pro's being shipped in India have the nodo update applied to them..  If these phones in india are not experiencing the freezing problem, then maybe the delay for the nodo update had to do with fixing this problem, because I spoke to dell and they said that the problem with the dell is a problem that was pushed to microsoft because of the software compatibiltity.  Maybe we have our fix!!!!....Or not and then I'll be greatly disappointed

Hi I am from India and i recently bought the DVP 16 GB but i have the issues with freezing specially while downloading apps from marketplace or xbox live, also my DVP is with NO-DO update it has copy paste functionality. I have read it somewhere that this is because of faulty Memory cards used by DELL I  am going to get mine replaced, or is there any other fix.

I would never be angry at a Dell rep for hardware issues, that's just silly.  they didn't build and test the device.

However, what does make me lose it is receiving a call from Dell stating they hadn't received the defective item I returned when A> I received an email back on 02/21 stating they received it and B> Any damn monkey can be trained to look up a FedEx tracking number online where it clearly shows it was returned and who signed for it.  Then get this, the # they leave to call them back?  No one ever answers and it only takes voicemail.  So I left 2 voicemails.

To make sure I cover myself, I also send an email via Dell's website to CS.  I make sure to list it "Other problem" and very quickly explain the issue, give the reference # and the tracking #.  I get an automated reply that tells me how to check my shipments online.  Are you kidding me?

NEVER have i dealt with such garbage from anyone, in person or online.  From day one when the phones were delayed on up to now, its been the worst experience. They can't even exchange a defective product correctly.

No Dell, ever again.

Sorry to hear you had issues with your return process, for me it went actually unexpectedly quickly.  I saw the refund post to my credit card before I even got the email from UPS saying my package had been delivered; then I went an bought a Galaxy S 4G....I sorta miss the seamless Zune media syncing but at least it isn't freezing  every 10 minutes like my DVP was...

So... what's the deal here Dell? The most I've heard is a Twitter response from Dell Cares saying "Issue is being addressed. Look for more info soon.".

I would really like to start using my Wi-Fi and have reception that's at least as good as my GF's cheap Chinese prepaid android phone (her reception is FAR better than mine on the same carrier in the same location).

C'mon, I'm dropping to one bar of "E" in the middle of Philadelphia!

I am very dissatisfied with this phone and Dell's response to these very large problems. What really sticks in my craw is you just keep on selling them, knowing about the problems.

Please address the issues and communicate with your customers about a timeframe to expect a fix. A poster above says he's from India with the NoDo update already installed and is having the same problems; that doesn't sound like a fix is coming soon.

I gave the benefit of the doubt but now I'm very close to demanding a full refund.

Same here I have had three different devices I am in the city this is the only phione I have had that does not have full signal strength in my home. I am down to 2 bars upstears, if I take out the sim from the dell and put it in my Nokia phone i have full bars even in the basement figure that out, I am just about to ask for a full refund. I have replaced the micro sd card in mine it came with a sandisk 8gb class 4 I replaced it with a sandisk 8gb class 2 and I have not had one crash since then and that's been weeks now. I am still sending it back screw dell and their warranty I saw nothing on the tab that said voud if removed and I certainly have not destroyed or damaged any part of the phone.

Just replace the micro sd card and it will work fine. I changed mine 3 weeks ago and it has not frozen since.
