scan code for dell updates not responsible

The Dell tile to update not recognized. When I click to detect my device sample of what I'm supposed to enter. I just ordered the stylus for my EMT courses and what it to work.

Well, you can use a flash drive if you have the OTG adapter for the Dell.

Or, more fun, you could consider installing Microsoft Labs "Mouse without Borders" on your PC and on the Dell. This neat little program lets you control the mouse and keyboard on another computer using your WiFi network, including dragging files from one device to the other.

I use this program to interact with my laptop and my tablet from my desktop's keyboard and mouse.

Conversely, you could put the files in a shared folder on your download PC like your Public folder and copy it on the Dell through your wireless network.

Gris, if this is all Greek to you, you might need to access the services of a teenager.

Hi, Grissom. I think there's some sort of software thing you need to download to get that auto-scan to work. I prefer to use the Updates program that lives in the notifications area after you run it the first time. It's not the one from My Dell, but the separate, grey icon in the Dell group in the detailed Apps menu. (Swipe down from the Start menu.) This only downloads urgent and recommended updates, which is a lot easier than trying to figure out what you may need or don't need from the big list of updates. By default, it only checks every two weeks! I like to run it every few days, so I start it by right-clicking the icon in the notifications area.

I'm reading posts that say download latest drivers that will fix the repeating key presses and allow the new stylus to work. The Dell tile update did work before. I'm concerned that it doesn't work now. So are you saying the Dell drivers will be updated along with windows updating from the charms bat?

Why not make it easy on yourself and simply go to the Dell downloads page for the DV8P.

Hey, Grissom. One of the updates DID fix the repeating key press issue on my V8P, but I don't know which one. I reset Windows and let Windows Update and Dell Update do their thing. Somewhere in the deluge of updates, something fixed it. I went from repeated key presses every fifth or so tap to once in a blue moon.

I have completely wiped my dell twice now I think. With that I'm worried that my windows product key will no longer be valid.  I saw the link to the download page but I can't get there without the scan code page being satisfied.

Hey, Grissom - If you're doing a reset/restore on the device, it won't ask you for a key. At least I've never seen that happen on the same device.  Maybe it phones home and says, "It's me again!"

It's odd, but when I try to go to the Dell downloads page on my DV8P, I can't get past the "enter your product serial no." page, no matter how I try; but I can get to the Dell downloads page without any issue on my Toshiba laptop and then download from there (and then copy the download over to the DV8P).  I wonder if something happened to the downloads page recently--it used to be fine, if I recall correctly.

It was the Touch Screen Firmware update that was marked URGENT.

The key I was referring to was my MS Office key. I did wipe my DV8P and the my Dell tile did respond. But alas I still get the product page to enter my scan code, won't detect my device or receive an input. I just want my stylus to work when it arrives. Sigh.....

Hi, Grissom.  This time, after I reset the device and downloaded all the Windows updates, instead of going to the Dell website, I used the other, grey update icon in the Dell group. This starts a little program in your notification area. Right-click it and select "Check for updates." After a few minutes, it will download the updates in a blob. I was watching the process using my Router's graphs, and it appeared to be one big file. Then the V8P digested it. You can do this without messing with that recently defective Dell update page. (I couldn't get it to work, either.)

As I mentioned above, I think there's something wrong with the download page right now.  Can you simply download the updates to another computer and then copy them to the Dell?

How do I copy downloads from one computer to another?

Mikerman is right. I tried it from my HP desktop and entered the service tag. First it wanted to run some scans, but clicking on "Get drivers and downloads" went right to the list.

Try putting your tablets service tag when the stars are in the link above, and it should take you right to the download page.

Ok. Finally got it. I used my laptop (thanks ya'll!) I then downloaded the synaptics download, saved it in downloads, uploaded it to SkyDrive, aka Onedrive, then went to my DV8P and downloaded it from my Onedrive there! Thanks again to everyone who helped this lame duck named Grissom.

Cool--and that's another way to do it.   :)

You may want to experiment with transferring files between computers/tablets on your network.  I don't recall having done anything special originally to set this up--I think that the setting to share files on one's computer may be part of the initial Windows startup with a new computer nowadays, but it also can be set later.

To share files, if I want anything from my tablet or computer, I simply navigate to where the files are located using Windows Explorer on another device on the network, and then copy them over--exactly like copying files between folders on one's single computer.  It's really great to have and incredibly useful.
