Unable to expand storage pool on Unity VSA
I have been using the Unity VSA since the GA version (4.0.0) in May. I created a storage pool back in May, and loaded it with some iSCSI LUNs and SMB file systems. It has been working fine. I then upgraded the UnityVSA from 4.0.0 to 4.0.1 (latest build, just released a few weeks ago). After this I configured VVols on the same storage pool. All was working well until I tried to expand the storage pool by adding another 100 GB virtual disk. Each time I tried to add another virtual disk to the pool, I would get this error:
Failed: The system is busy. Try again later. If the problem persists, search for the error code on the support website or product forums, or contact your service provider, if available. (Error Code:0x7d13002)
The error box gave me the option to Relaunch UI, which seemed to cause my LUNs to go offline and the UnityVSA to reboot.
I tried this over and over again, and the same results occurred regardless of what size virtual disk I add to the pool. Note that the pool was only about 75% full, with plenty of free space. The total capacity on the VSA is currently around 900 GB, so it's nowhere near the 4 TB limit.
At the end of the day I was able to solve the problem by deleting everything from the pool (LUNs, VVols, and SMB file systems), deleting the pool, re-creating it, and re-creating the LUNs, VVols, and SMB file systems. After re-creating the pool I was able to successfully expand it with any of the unused virtual disks.
My question is whether anyone else has run into this problem? Is this a known issue with pools upgraded from 4.0.0 to 4.0.1? It was very time-consuming to delete everything and re-create so I am hoping it doesn't happen again. Curious if anyone else has run into this.
Bill
