How does EMC development change with this move to open source?

Not much really. EMC developers will continue to commit fully tested features of ViPR Controller. It's just that now they go into the open source CoprHD project as part of their development process for future releases of the commercial product. Third party developers will also contribute features/functionality which must comply with defined test criteria and validated by reviewers/maintainers in order to be accepted by the community.
EMC will validate and package features and functionality developed and tested in the open source community CoprHD project into a commercial release of ViPR Controller which will be backed by EMC professional services and maintenance support.

How do we anticipate CoprHD will benefit ViPR Controller going forward?

As a Vipr Controller existing customer and/or partner, how will CoprHD benefit me?

Existing customer will have the ability to collaborate with the CoprHD community and EMC development organization even more directly than they do today. They can be part of the actual conversations about features or issues that affect their daily lives.
Another expected benefit is that now more storage vendors can create native drivers for the open source version that will eventually carry into ViPR.

ViPR Controller will benefit from CoprHD mainly by the increase of 3rd party array developers interested in getting their hardware supported by the single pane of glass and the rich functionality that ViPR Controller provide to our current customers. It will also help to have more eyes in the code to make it better and more robust. We expect open sourcing it will provide us with new ideas to the platform.

EMC RFE system is a black hole, RFE submitted 10 year ago disappeared in dark matter never to be heard/seen again. Hopefully the new way is more transparent.

You can still use the current methods and go directly to EMC with your request, and, now, you can also go to the community and make your request there as well.
I'll make sure to have a section in the wiki dedicated to this and show how to make new feature requests in JIRA.
Thanks!

This Ask the Expert event has oficially ended, but don't let that retract you from asking more questions. At this point our SME are welcome to answer and continue the discussion though not required. Here is where we ask our community members to chime in and assist other members if they're able to provide information.
Cheers!
