Moving from mysql to mssql loses my dashboards?

Running 6.6 with a mysql 5.0.77 instance  and am moving to the db to a Microsoft SQL Server 10.00.4064 instance to support 6.6.

I have been told that moving from one DB to another will cause me to lose my dashboards and data. Has anyone bee n able to save there dashboards and port them in to the new DB? Do I take a Mysql backup and can I restore the the dashboards into the new MSSQL DB? If I have to recreate all the dashboards from scratch. That is going to be a real problem.

I thought this was going to be a smooth migration from one db to another. Thoughts!!!

HI AI,

Moving backend repository between different database type is not supported.

Besides that, if you still have old server backup/ or server running, you can try use fglcmd to backup old dashboard and import to new server.

Example like this

fglcmd -usr foglight -pwd foglight -cmd util:uiexport -m user:foglight -f dashboards.zip
fglcmd -usr foglight pwd foglight -cmd util:uiimport –f dashboards.zip

Hope this helps

You are correct that you can't save the data.

When we moved from a federated windows platform to a single RHEL platform, there was also no way to consolidate databases, so we started over on the new platform, and after some tuning have been extremely happy with the level of performance.

We were able to move all of our dashboards, views, rules, thresholds, types, functions, queries, reports, etc. from the old to the new configuration.    The objects should come across with the same internal IDs.

Warning:

Do not try to do this as an in-place change.  If you try to do it in-place, you will cause yourself a lot of pain.

Setup the new FMS on a separate server, connected to the new database.

Get the new FMS up and running, collecting data, etc. in parallel.   As Lee said above, export your configurations from the old box, and install them on the new box, and make sure they are running properly.  Compare the results between old and new.

Once you have everything moved, swing over the URL, and your users will see the new box.

Thanks Lee,

I will try the commands out. Question about the import. If the commands dump the dashboards out to a script. When I re-import the dashboards back in. What happens to the reference id of the object in the dashboard. Will I have to re-link the object in the dashboard with the reference id of the new DB. I'm thinking that the dashboard will be exported and re-imported fine with these commands. But I'm thinking that I will have to relink objects in the newly imported dashboards.

Will test this out,,thanks for your help.

Also, you might check out the fglIDE at http://fglide.apmcentral.org/ , it can be a lot easier to use than the command line.

Question:

What about the reports, do we have to recreate the Reports? What about my Derive Metric or Rules which I created?

Can I use the import/export process to pull reports from one environment to another?

Also can I import/export the derived metrics that I have created as well… Thanks From: Lee Ai

Hello Lee,

Is there an export and import command for reports that a user created. Like if a person created several custom reports and would like to move them from test to production without having to re-create them from scratch?

Thanks,,al
