Question About forwarding alerts from vFoglight to IBM Netcool/Omnibus

Hello Folks,

We were successful in using the Integration cartridge in getting alerts from vFoglight into the IBM Tivoli TEC console. We have the old micromuse Netcool\Omnibus product that was taken over by IBM.

I need to be able to take alerts from vFoglight and send them to the Netcool console. Their appears to be a way to send the alerts via SNMP to Netcool. Just wondering if anyone has done the forwarding of alerts from vfoglight to Netcool. Is there a connector or something.

Thanks ahead of time

Hi Al,

The Integration Cartridge provides a framework for implementing integrations with third party products like Netcool/Omnibus:

There's a summary of the integration capability and process in eDocs: http://edocs.quest.com/foglight/563/doc/Cartridge-Integration/IntegrationCartridge/UnderstandingWorkflow.2.1.php#378510

Most customers configure Foglight to send SNMP traps to Netcool/Omnibus, as described in Event Driven Rules - SNMP Forward.

Quest Professional Services can help you implement a customized integration with Netcool/Omnibus.

Thanks Brian,

This information helped alot. I was looking to mimic more or less the same process that the Cartridge for Integration utilizes in sending it's alerts to the Tivoli Enterprise Console.  That process utilizes the Tivoli postemsg.exe to send the alerts from vfoglight to the Tivoli Console. In speaking with the IBM/Tivoli folks and our Systems Management folks here at UPS. The Omnibus/Netcool console uses a similiar utility called posteifmsg.exe and a CONF file for message forwarding.

I was able to modify the perl script that comes with the Integration cartridge(forward-alerts-to-tec-win.pl).

I replaced the postemsg in the script with the following and have alerts in the Omnibus/Netcool console.

Still have a little cleanup work to do. But for the most part. I'm talking to the Omnibus console with vFoglight.

Hope this helps.
