vFog and vOps announcement - what does it mean to me?
I watched the 10 minute preso by the marketing folks from vKernel and left it still wondering what this product merger means for customers like me. I've had 4 Quest account rep's in the last 6 months since they seem to be dropping like flies or are "relocated" within Quest, so I'm not even sure who my rep is now to ask any questions to. Anyone here know?
1. Why would I want to use vOps if I am a vFoglight customer?
2. Why would I want to pay more money (like double the per-proc price) for a product that already does most of what vFoglight does?
3. Support for the products should be confusing at best since it truly isn;t a single product, but 2 seperate products. Are Quest vFog folks being trained on vOps? And vice-versa?
Hopefully someone can clear the air on this merger. I really miss Vizioncore.

Hi, Mike,
My apologies that I wasn't able to clear it up better in the webinar. Let me try to address your specific questions here. First, though, I should clarify again that the new vOPS Server Standard and Enterprise editions are rebrandings of the existing products. Today vOPS Server Standard consists of the former VKernel vOPS Suite with 4 products. vOPS Server Enterprise edition consists of both vFoglight and vOPS Suite. It is of course true today that the unified product consists of two disconnected products, but that will change over time.
1. You may not, and that's fine. However, the vOPS Suite provides quite a bit of functionality that is not in vFoglight around capacity management and optimization (and of course the reverse is true - vFoglight provides quite a bit of functionality that is not in vOPS Suite). Upgrading from vFoglight to the vOPS Server Enterprise edition gets you that additional functionality as well as new capabilities going forward.
2. As a vFoglight customer you have the ability to upgrade to vOPS Server Enterprise at a very low price. I'd be happy to connect you to the right rep to get more information - just email me your name/company at eric.jackson at quest.com. There are two reasons you might want to do this: you want access to the additional functionality available today in the other product or you want to take advantage of the lower price to get access to new Enterprise edition capabilities as they come out. However, there is no requirement that you do this.
3. Yes, we are cross-training on both products.
Please feel free to reach out to me by email as well if you have further questions.
