vOPS Capacity Manager
Hi,
Is it possible in Capacity Manager or anywhere else in vOPS to see what the potential for adding new VMs is for adding resources to ESXi hosts in a cluster. Currently, I can see how many more VMs are possible if given specific resources that currently exist on ESXi hosts in a cluster. I was wondering if there was a way to see if I added more memory to each ESXi host how many more VMs would be possible then. Also, if I increased the size of the data stores can I get specific stats on how many more VMs could be accomodated with these new resources?
Thanks.
Fernando

That's correct. The capacity availability number is the result of analyzing the utilized resources, available resources, HA configuration settings, resource contention, and most definitely the calculated (or manually set) VM size.
For more details on how the capacity availability is calculated, see the product documentation.

Hi Fernando,
This functionality exists in the upcoming release (6.5) which includes modeling the capacity changes that are brought about by hardware upgrades and changes. This release is coming this month so you will see it very soon.

Hi Brad,
In the CapacityManager tab under the Capacity Availability section ( if I have a specific cluster highlighted), if under the Additional VMs section it says 0 does that mean vOps doesn't think any more VMs can be handled on the cluster based on the calculated VM size?
Thanks.

I have planned a hardware change :
Add a host to cluster
+ 256GB RAM
So I suppose that in column "Future / Additional VMs", I will see a better value than in "Current / Additional VMs" ?
That it's not the case ; why ? another bug ?
