Accidently deleted BCMSMMSG.exe

I got hit with antivirus2008pro and it really messed up my computer to the point it was unable to stay booted in either Windows XP or in Safe Mode. I used info on the HiJack forum and microsoft.com support to get back to where I can now load windows, but:

I can't get access to the internet, none of my printers showup, I can't do searches, I can't access Help and Support (error message of a service is not running).

While I was working on fixing the trojan I misunderstood some directions and permanently deleted the file BCMSMMSG.exe from C:\Windows and also the same file from C:\DRIVERS\Modem. I'm not certain if the abscense of these files is causing all my problems or not, but I'm wondering how do I get these files back?

I have no ability to go online with the computer to try any of the online diagnostics or anything else online. I have my original Windows XP CD, but I'm afraid to reinstall Windows XP which was pre SP2 because I have no ideal what that would do.

I'm posting here and in Windows XP since I didn't know where would be most appropriate.

You need to post your HiJack Log here to get help.

Read THIS FIRST.

I have run Spysweeper and MacAfee which are running alright on my computer and they have identified and removed a couple of what they identified as web hijack programs and a lot of cookies. I also ran RegistryFixer and it made a bunch of corrections.

I would love to download HiJack to the computer with the problem, but as I indicated in the message I can not access the internet nor my local network.

My post the Windows XP only yielded the input to send my problem to this forum, which, of course, I already have.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as to where to seek help.

Sounds like a good plan. I didn't know enough about HiJack. I thought it had to have some internet connectivity to do its thing.

I copied the HiJack programs to both USB drive and the computer with a problem would not recognize the device so I copied the program to a CD and had the same result. I guess whatever causes the computer to not show any devices in Device Manager is also not allowing the computer to see these drives.

I've tried both CD drives and different USB ports, but get the same results each time. I even have a full backup of my keys files on an external dirve, but the computer no longer sees this drive either.

Any other thoughts on how to proceed?
