AD-AWARE caused an exception eedfadeH ....

Have been given an old win98se pc. After using 'kakcleaner.exe' from http://www.pchell.com/downloads/kakcleaner.exe' to remove a pop-up (?left over from infected/removed KAK virus) which opens on every boot, I can now not run Ad-aware.
I have tried uninstall/reinstall and install in safe mode.
Ad-aware will install normally, but does not run. I get error:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Ad-aware: This program has perfomed an illegal operation and will be shut down....
Details: AD-AWARE caused an exception eedfadeH in module at 0000:00000000.
Registers:

EDX=00000000 ES=0000 EDI=00000000 GS=0000
Bytes at CS:EIP:

Stack dump:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
And then once OK'd the error get another error:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Anwendungsfehler: Exception EReadError in Modul AS-AWARE.EXE bei 00021F0B.
Fehler beim Lesen von memof.Lines.Strings: Fehler bei Einfugen von RichEdit-Zeile.

It seems fair to comment that running KAK cleaner was perhaps not the best idea. Any ideas on how to get Ad-aware running. AVG7free finds no virus. Spybot runs normally as do regular PC apps.

Ignore specs below, this is a different PC

Goto Downloads .com and type in ad-aware then just down load it again.Do not try to remove the old first let the new download do it for you. Also if you have the memory for it get windows XP not with the firewall it give you for free

I solved this problem by getting a new copy of "riched32.dll" from
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?riched32

I unzipped it and placed it where it belongs
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

Adaware works perfectly and Spybot no longer gives me error messages in German.

Thanks for your help - I decided to do a HDD reformat anyway and start from fresh.
