addware on my computer

Hey, I just got this computer and not three days of use I already contracted 3 viruses and some addware my anti-virus won't detect. It really pisses me off. You know what really bugs me? I didnt even download anything. I got these problems in 1 night of surfing the internet looking for graphics for a web page Im creating. Why must people be so randomly malicious? What's the benefit of attacking people you don't even know simply in the name of destruction? Anyway, since I cleaned out the viruses Ive installed a firewall that came with my anti-virus software (Mcfee). Before I was just using the Microsoft network protection which obviously isn't worth a cracker.

Could you please look over my hijackthis log and see what you can locate? Thanks a bunch.

Download then unzip and run CWShredder to clean up clicking "FIX" to have it remove all it finds.

CWShredder available from :-

www.zerosrealm.com/downloads.php

please post a new hijackthis log after a reboot. (There will be a couple of things to clear up after this program has finished.)

Edit: Oh well...guess I'll catch Chris sleeping next time. lol

To MJK: A few research comments from a trainee so wait for Chris to confirm any removal actions:

>C:\WINDOWS\wt\updater\wcmdmgr.exe
Wild Tangent updater

>C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ossproxy.exe
Marketscore (previously Nettsetter) spyware

>R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://mshp.dll/sp.html#22776
>R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://mshp.dll/index.html#22776
>R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://mshp.dll/index.html#22776
>R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://mshp.dll/sp.html#22776
>R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = res://mshp.dll/index.html#22776
>R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://mshp.dll/sp.html#22776

These all look like CoolWebSearch hijackied entries for the IE search page.

>O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

The number descriptor is for Microsoft Money...file name should be mnyviewer.dll

>O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OSSProxy] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ossproxy.exe -boot
Marketscore (previously Nettsetter) spyware..possibly from a Internet Accelerator offer...not recommended.

I don't recognize them..may be harmless toolbar and button.

I probably missed some...Chris can grade me. *;-)  I bet he will recommend running CWshredder first then post back with a new log. Maybe. *;-0\

All the best,

Hi Texruss,

I see that you are a member of both BootCamp and ClassRoom now. Well done at getting entry to both.

You should start your reading now, all the pegged topics at both schools, have a look at my 'example' logs too, they will show you how to use the tools that you should find in those school rooms.

Then have a go at some of the practice logs, that way you can try your skill without any live users log being involved. The other teaching assistants will reply to your answers with how you do.

When you have taken your 'helper' exam at BootCamp' I will add you here for giving answers to peoples logs.

You should really fully turn on the Mcafee AV application. You must have it on when ever you are on the web. Down load Ad-Ware 6  and keep it up tp date. Are you up to Dat 4346 with Mcafee, which you must get fully operation. Have not had any problems and I am running an old Mcafee version, but updated the engine (432) and dat files (4346).

Check these in hijackthis, AND WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, fix checked.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OSSProxy] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ossproxy.exe -boot

Then Reboot to safe mode (F8 on boot) and delete the following files/folders:-

File > > C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ossproxy.exe

Then Reboot and post a fresh log for me to check.

As Jake02324 said, if you have some anti-malware systems do have them running. I will advice others to install when you are clean.
