Here's the "standard" fix i've been using for your problem.   However, given the "repairs" and registry editing you've already attempted, we can't make any guarantees.  but i think it's worth a try:

Download [but do *NOT* yet run] FixVundo from

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixVundo.exe

[we'll have you run it later]

Note: If you have previously download this file on another occasion, please download it again, to be absolutely sure you have the most current version.

********************

Next, download VirtumundoBeGone from:

http://secured2k.home.comcast.net/tools/VirtumundoBeGone.exe

* Save it to your Desktop
* Close all running programs (including your Internet Browser)
* Double-click VirtumundoBeGone.exe on the desktop
* Follow the directions as indicated

please be advised that this program will generate a "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH"... this is an expected/necessary part of the process, so don't be surprised when it happens.

just reboot if your system "jams"

*********************

After rebooting, it's now time to run FixVundo (which you had downloaded earlier).

Make sure all other programs, including your Internet Browser, are closed.

Double-click the FixVundo.exe file to start the removal tool.

Click Start to begin the process, and then allow this tool to run.

Important: Do not launch any new applications while the tool is running!

Reboot your computer.

Run the FixVundo removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.

*********************

It's now time to report back to us:

VirtumundoBeGone  generated a "log" file of its own, which it should have placed on your Desktop... please REPLY to this thread, and copy/paste the VirtumundoBeGone log back here.

P.S.  If you know about HiJackThis, it would be good to also generate and post your HJT log.  If you don't know, i'll explain it all for you later...

BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH refers to a "crash"-like condition.... typically, the screen turns blue, there may [or may not] be a ["fatal"] error message on it, and in most cases, you can't simply hit a key to get the system to restart.   rather, you'll have to press (perhaps hold in) your power button, to get the system to re-restart.

[there may be other 'severe' error messages, like a "memory dump"].

normally, this is a very bad sign, that something's gone drastically wrong, and windows can't resolve the problem on its own.  but, in this instance, it's to be expected.  which is why i want to warn people about it.

VirtumundoBeGone is a tiny program.  if you want, you COULD delete it.   but, given how common a problem this is, i'd certainly recommend to "put it away" in a safe directory/folder somewhere, just in case you have to run it again at some future point.

similarly, you may see people talk about several "tools"/programs here... in particular, HiJackThis, Ad-Aware, SpyBot (and others).   it's a good idea to keep all of these around, rather than "trashing" them after one use.

[do you have so little disk space available???]

I'll give this a shot. Just a couple questions before I try this thing: I do not know much about a "blue screen of death". What exactly does it do and will it happen again after I attempt this? Also, if the adware is deleted, can I delete the VirtumundoBeGone program and anything else I used to get rid of it? Thanks again for your help!

No, I have plenty of disk space..I was just curious about that.
