Other than the MyWaySearchAssistant that Dell gave you the log appears clean.  There should be a Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs entry for MyWay if you want to get rid of it.  Are you having any problems?

Hi Ron,

You know, I haven't noticed any problem with my computer, but this "stupid" icon bugs me that I can't seem to get rid of it.  The odd thing is, I can't get anything to happen when I right click, left, click, try to drag it anywhere, nothing, just sits there.  When I get home, I'll try your recommondation and see what happens.  Thanks for your time and efforts!

well, it's kinda hard to see, but it looks like what are 2 building blocks as a base, then another block on top with what looks like maybe an H on the block, then the word dellstat next to it.  ring any bells (sound familiar) to anyone?

Just read your other post where you say the icon is on the taskbar.  You can disregard my previous post since I thought it was on the desktop.

When you say task bar are you talking about the the systray (near the clock) or the quicklaunch (near the Start button), or the area in the middle where running programs show up or something else?

Delphi uses the term dellstat.  Other than that I can't find anything tho I vaguely remember seeing it in a hijackThis log once but we should still be able to get rid of it.

Start, Control Panel, Display (Properties). This should bring up Display Properties/Background. Change the wallpaper to something else and Apply. You may also need to select Web and uncheck the box where it says View My Active Desktop as a web page. OK

If you can't make changes to the desktop or the tabs are not there then:

Start, Run, regedit, OK to bring up the regedit program.
find HKey_Current_User->Software ->Microsoft->Windows->CurrentVersion>policies (Hit the + sign in front of each Key as you find them. That will open up the subkeys.)
Under Policies is usually an entry named System. If you find it highlight it and press the Delete key. Then OK. Close the program and reboot.

You can also try the smitfraud.reg program from

Assuming it wasn't something active desktop was showing you then we can try

Start, Run, cmd, OK to open a new black cmd window.  Type:

dir  "%UserProfile%\Desktop\" > "%UserProfile%\Desktop\junk.txt"

This should create a file on your desktop named junk.txt.  Doubleclick on it and copy and paste the text into a reply to this post.

Hi Ron,

it's in the middle part where running programs show up...that's what has me so baffled (and annoyed, as I'm sure you can tell), don't know what it's doing (if anything).  Because it has dell in the name of the silly thing, I contaced Dell tech support to see what it was, they tell me it's some sort of spyware, but after all this, I don't know what to think.

thanks, ~m

Get regseeker from:

Run it and select Find in Registry then have it search for dellstat and see if it finds anything.  If it does you can Select All then rightclick on one and select Delete Selected Items.

You're a genius!  I ran Find in Registry and guess what I turned out to be...the Dell Printer I have hooked up to this computer (it was free with Dell system purchase).  Funny thing is, when the dellstat icon appeared, the first thing I did was to search for dellstat using the seach function in xp.  Didn't find a thing.

Find in Registry found a bunch of dellstat and dellstat.ini files, all related to the printer.  I didn't delete using Find in Registry; I went to the Dell Printers folder and uninstalled the files from there.  Bingo! dellstat icon is GONE!!!  If that was an icon for a printer, it sure was not like any other printer icon I've ever seen, also seems strange that Dell Tech Support had no idea, they had me try a bunch of stuff, then said it was spyware.  I have an older HP deskjet that I'll hook up in place of this one.  Not sure why it bothered me so much, I guess the fact that I want to be the one to control what appears on my Desktop, Taskbar, etc., and when I couldn't get rid of it, it drove me nuts.. :-)

Thanks for the advice - not to mention your time too!
