Follow Atribune's procedure at:

http://www.atribune.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=447&hl=killvundo

The paths the program asks you for would be:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\yayyx.dll

and

C:\WINDOWS\system32\xyyay.*

Do not use the ones given in the article.  They won't work for your infection.

When HijackThis pops up during the procedure you will need to check these two:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\yayyx.dll

and

O20 - Winlogon Notify: yayyx - C:\WINDOWS\system32\yayyx.dll

You will know that it worked if the above lines
either drop out of the scan or say File Missing when you complete the procedure.

If you see them then check them and Fix Checked to remove them.

Post a new HijackThis scan when you are done.

Hi Ron,

Sorry it took so long to reply, I've been in class... Anyways, I began the fix of my problem and while in the vundofix program, after I entered the filepaths you specified, my Norton Internet security popped up with a High Risk factor and prompted me to force a reboot.  The security box popped up when the Highjackthis program should have opened, which I am assuming the highjackthis is the program norton had a problem with.  My question is whether or not I can ignore the high risk security warning and permit the access to my computer, or whether something else is wrong.... Sorry if this is an obvious question, I've had some previous computer problems and don't want to mess this up :) Let me know and thanks again for all your help!!

Tell Norton to mind its own business.  The procedure is safe.

You may have killed  the bug if you got to the Hijack part.  Do you still see the lines I told you to look for?  Do they perhaps say File Missing or No File at the end?  If so then you got it.  Just check them and Fix Checked.  If they still show up with no mention fo the File Missing or No File then you will need to repeat the fix.

Looks pretty good.  You can check/Fix Checked these last remnants:

Make sure you have System Restore running (toggle it off and On today to get rid of any bad stuff it may have retained)
and then you can just go back to an earlier time if you hit a bad site.
One way to make this more obvious is to check everything in your current HijackThis and Add to Ignore List then set up Hijackthis to run at boot and to show you if it finds anything new.

To avoid going to a bad site you might want to install IE-SpyAd and SpywareBlaster and make the other changes recommended at:.

I used to recommend Spybot's Immunize system but have recently learned it is not as good as the one at:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Never hurts to do one of the free on line scans from Panda or Trend.  They take a while but are pretty good.

In addition to Microsoft AntiSpy

I like to run Spybot S&D.

Also like to run AdAware once in a while.
