Any body else ?

About  3 or 4 days ago unsecapp.exe and wmiapsrv.exe Wmiprvse.exe  are showing up in my task manager when booting.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\unsecapp.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmiapsrv.exe Wmiprvse.exe

There are a few questions around the web about it but it seems no one knows why. I know they are from Microsoft for incompatability and Service red respectively, but no idea why they are showing now.

I uninstalled a few programs I updated the past week but they still show.

CCleaner, Sandboxie, Flash, FF.

Ron,

I don't think Hernan is questioning the EXISTENCE of such a file on one's hard drive...

nor its LEGITIMACY - it's clearly a Microsoft system file (i.e., NOT malware), having a valid use.   [Its NAME is unnerving, unsecapp, as it makes one think of UN-SECured APPlication :emotion-3:  ]

Rather, Hernan's question is why this program, so long vestigial, is suddenly running all the time as an active task?

You're right, it's probably nothing to worry about... but he (and I) would just like to know if it's avast's doing, and if so, WHY they suddenly needed it.

Based on my observation, it would appear that avast's recent emergency update IS a catalyst, causing unsecapp to run as an active task.   [It's entirely possible that other programs, as well, generate task usage of unsecapp.]   The fact that you don't have avast, and unsecapp not running as an active task on your machine, does not conflict with what we're saying here.

Hi Ron.

I think I can not add anything else to what David just said above. Better impossible. Thanks David.

I have terminated it and nothing happens. Avast! and FF work as always.

Regards.

Another forum. Another user asking what unsecapp.exe is. This time one of his member bothered to uninstall avast! in 2 of his computer. Lo and behold unsecapp.exe was not starting or showing in his Task Manager any more. Reply # 11

Now we have to wait for avast! forums to be up and running to ask why is unsecapp running.

I'm convinced.   It's definitely avast doing it for us.   Something in the emergency update activated it... and the above experiment offers absolute cause-and-effect confirmation.

On the other hand, let me stress that I am NOT at all "worried" about this process running.  It's legitimate.   Just now a "curiosity" as to why avast suddenly needs it...

Now that the avast forum is finally back online, I see a post there raising this question:

(No satisfactory answer there as of this writing...)

Can it be unsecapp.exe a virus? No, it isn't. The authentic unsecapp.exe document is just a safe Micro Soft Windows procedure practice, named"WMI element". But, authors of malware apps, like viruses, viruses, and Trojans intentionally offer their procedures the exact very same filename to escape detection.

Viruses Using the Exact Same record title are these as Mal/Generic-S or even XMRig Miner (PUA) (discovered by Sophos), also Trojan:Win32/CoinMiner (discovered by Microsoft).
To Ensure no anti unsecapp.exe Is Operating in your own Personal Computer, Something more you can check it HowToseeks.org for further info.

If answer useful then please like it
