BackWeb & Logitech

I have purchased Logitech optical cordless mouse. When I installed the software, BackWeb spyware was installed.  Logitech bundles BackWeb lite with the software.  MS Beta Anti-Spyware detects it. So does Spy Bot Search & Destroy. The problem is that if you remove BackWeb, the mouse will not work.  Why do vendors have to resort to using Spyware?

My remedy was to use the firewall and block BackWeb while the number of entries increase in my registry.

Algal,

I've seen backweb listed, especially since it has the ability to download and install executable code without your knowledge. I wasn't aware it would prevent your mouse from working, just keep new updates from being downloaded. Have you tried removing that entry using HiJackThis (not removing the actual file from your harddrive though), then rebooting your computer and checking to see if you loose mouse functionality?
