Below is my fresh HJT Log BUT...I noticed that the R1  IE default page is still there. When I went to ADD/REMOVE Prog's I found Smart Shopper and uninstalled it (got an error mess, saying it may have already been uninstalled, do I want to continue to uninstall..) I checked yes and it is not in there anymore.. When I went to check/uninstall the IE default page. It was NOT listed anywhere in the ADD/Remove Programs. I go back and ran a HJT log and checked to remove it (R1 etc...) I also noticed the two Smart Shopper Compare Price and Travel Rates were back so I checked to remove those also. I rebooted and below is the newest HJT Log :      :(

Don't know why they keep coming back. I follow directions and reboot each time

Yes I did attempt to remove R1 line on my on  (sorry :(  ..I did that only after I could not find the IE default page in the Add/Remove programs.

I tried downloading the file "combofix.exe" several times but could not get a "log" When the file came up I clicked on "run" and I assume it was downloading briefly a blue screen came up and each time, the words flashed up REAL quick "not reconized as an internal... whatever," then flashed to a blue screen w/Instructions to close all windows, etc . proceed . said TYPE 1 to continue or 2 to abort. I pressed  1 and waited and waited and waited. the #1 had a blinking line ( -) next to it  I waited awhile and then pressed #2 to abort, nothing happened except the 2 was next to the 1 and the blinking line after that. I closed the file. Tried again and waited longer, thinking maybe I didn't wait long enough the first time. still the same thing. nothing. Finally I downloaded it and waited an hr.  LOL still nothing.

Sorry  :(    I have no idea what is wrong.

One you download the Combofix program.

 

Boot into Safe Mode and see if it will run. If so post the results, if not reply and we will do something else

You will notice there is no "log" Boy, did I open up a can of worms :smileysurprised: I did not get back w/you because I have just NOW got my computer running angain. Trouble started when I Rebooted in SAFE mode.. Then a black screen somes up w/GIANT letters at top all the way across and Part of the word "SAFE MODE" the writting was so big that the screen couldn't show everything..then finally a blue screen w/part of my desktop icons on it. THEY were HUGE. Again all of the info would not show on the screen. I can't do anything.

The worse part was, I can't even SEE my task bar, it is hid cause everything is so big. I finally turn off my computer manually and wait a while. Turn it back on and of course it is STILL in safe mode. A screen comes up and says windows is running in safe mode, etc.. to procede in Safe Mode click yes. If you prefer to use system restore click no. So I clicked "no" to see if I could get out of it. that took me to another screen that said (can't really remember now) something to the effect that I couldn't preform system restore , to do so reboot. so I did that and it starts all over again w/the black screen, giant letters..etc. I did remember another way to get in or out of safe mode (by clicking start, Run, and typing in "msconfig" and going there, BUT I have no task bar so I CAN'T even "get to" START.  Finally at 12 midnight. I turned computer off, unplugged computer, praying that when I got up this morning it would start up in NORMAL mode. But ofcourse it started up just like before.  Three hrs later I finally got the task bar to show and went to START,RUN< etc. and got it out of Safe mode. Sorry If I am rambling on, but I want to know if you have ever heard of anything like that happening???????? The people I have talked to have never heard of that. (I'm thinking, great, only on MY computer) and I am afraid to ever go back into SAFE Mode for any reason. I felt totally helpless. This computer did the same thing one time back in Jan when you were helping me  get rid of NAV and I rebooted in safe mode and the Huge letters came up like that , but that time I manually rebooted and tapped F8 and got the menu and started over.

 Jeeezzz you can't imagaine how upset I was. if I ever get the nerve to go into safemode again ..lol.. and it does the same thing is there ANYTHING I can do.??  I am really curious to know. I was almost ready to use my neighbors computer to email you from his laptop and ask you what to do, to get back to normal mode. Now I am nore concerned about this problem than the other. :(

 

So back to the original problem of getting rid of the Smart Shopper links..what now?

I do want to take this time to thank you so much for all your help and patience w/my problems.
