Computer slow to start, etc.

At the suggestion of a platinum member, I am re-posting this so that I can get a response from a hijackthis grad. :)

Hello all,

I was steered to this site by my daughter who has raved about the help she has gotten here. I am in the process of trying to "clean" my system as much as possible. It's just overall a slow system. Slow to start and shut down, not to mention completing simple tasks like opening a program. Please tell me if any is wrong and what can I do to prevent this in the future.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Vannessa

You can delete this one...or we will just consider this thread closed.

Sorry you were confused.

That is what happens when we have unqualified people reply to posts. It really puts the analysts and the users off track.

Carry on, zb1! :)

I didn't go to HJT college, if that's what you're asking but I've worked for Geek Squad and Dell as Dell on Call. I understand that you won't bash your partners, but if you want to give her honest troubleshooting why don't you ask if her computer has always been slow to start up also system specs (RAM and CPU, IDE or SATA drives?), has she installed anything new, maybe run a HDD test. Rootkit seems really out there in this case since her HJT log looks like a newly imaged drive.

In all honesty, my answer will solve her problem of "slow startup and slow computer" whereas removing a few BHO's will not. Is this the level of customer service the "qualified analysts" give customers? By the way, I'm not unqualified, but I'll just stop posting because it looks like nobody wants to really help this woman seeing as how you just told her to basically remove a yahoo hijack and reboot. Sorry to have mudded up your forum with unqualified advice. She has no aparent infection and her computer is running as designed. She was just sold too little RAM and too much bloated software with I'm guessing a Celeron processor. Someone should just be honest with her. I'm sure I'll get talked down to or deleted for saying that, but its the truth and you know it. Have a great day :(

Thank you for your suggestions, we have read them... now can we continue our work uninterrupted by anymore chit chat?

Have a good weekend.

evhwolfgang,
Thank you for wanting to help, but I take issue with some of the advice you posted. We don't do our cleanup as a "one shot" deal. We often progress to more specific diagnostics such as rootkit detection. This user's fix has a long way to go.

Hello everyone,

I am sure some of the advice that was posted will work, and I don't believe I have any spyware or adware on my system. Nonetheless, I do not know these things for sure and was just coming to get some direction as to what I should do. I could call GeekSquard or get more Ram, but I don't really use this computer for much more than playing online games and such. My daughter came for a visit and needed to use the computer and was having issue with the speed. I didn't want to bother with it, but I did notice it's slower than normal.

So is upgrading the answer for me?

Thank you,

Vannessa

Vannessa,
Let's move over to HERE

Send you system specs, RAM, processor in your next thread.

As far as your question of upgrade, I will not say at this point that will help. We can talk about it later, OK?

Move to the other one as this thread is just going to confuse you. I will discuss all you questions in the newer thread.
