COOLWEBSEARCH.YEXE

I have Dell 8250 - XP Window.. Last Friday - I had cable modem installed so I can surf the net faster which it was a smooth process then Saturday came - POOF!! - I cannot access online... Good thing I already download spybots and ad-ware on Friday which is currently update with Norton 2003 that is also updated on Friday.  I ran all these three and kept cleaning these out.  Only Coolwebsearch.yexe in spybots kept coming back even though it is deleted.

I borrow an laptop to test our cable modem to see if it works and it works which tell me the problem is in our PC... We have done many different avenue with assistance of our uncle who is computer technican which he is stumped after all of this.  We even tried to manual override or manual manpulation with DCHP and DNS but bogus IP address keeps popping up on our IP Config so the manual didn't work.

I was recommend to do the winsockxp and LSP.. However there is a question in what order should I do this.. I was also recommend to do the CWShredder.  Should I do the CWshredder first
BEFORE winsockxp and LSP??  Uncle and I believe we have disable the coolwwwsearch but not delete as we search a particular files and move them to temp where it shouldn't affect much (I hope)

Question:  Should I run CWshredder first before winsockxp and LSP or after?  and Does CWshredder take care of "YEXE" as I know there is many variants but couldn't find much about YEXE..

Appreciate your feedback..

Wcline,

I usually fix them first. Why not post up a HiJackThis log and let's see what you've got.

Mike.

Yes I did run the spybots but it kept coming back... Now I can access the internet as the winsockxp did the trick so now I would like to work little more on the spyware..  I haven't used CWsweeper yet... I always used Ad-Aware and Spybots on regular basis with Norton on top of it... These three should be sufficient? or is there more for better protection?

Question:  Ad-aware se... is it worth having Ad-Watch to run while I surf as I didn't upgrade to that verision... does it affect the system to be slower since Norton is running live and having two running does decrease the performance a bit... Would daily or every other day cleaning take care of this than using ad-watch?

Thanks..

Wcline,

Here are a few more possibilities:

The "Free Online Scan" from www.trendmicro.com.

The free " A squared 2" anti-trojan software.
