Danger! P2P Applications
P2P File Sharing
Because the volunteers on the security boards at DCF find the nature of P2P programs dangerous, we suggest that you remove P2P file sharing programs.
Even the safest P2P file sharing programs that do not contain bundled spyware, still expose a user to risks because of the very nature of the P2P file sharing process. By default, most P2P file sharing programs are configured to automatically launch at startup. They are also configured to allow other P2P users on the same network open access to a shared directory on your computer. File sharing relies on its members giving and gaining unfettered access to computers across the P2P network. However, this practice can make users vulnerable to data and identity theft. Even if risky default settings are changed to a safer configuration, the act of downloading files from an anonymous source greatly increases your exposure to infection. That is because the files downloaded may actually contain a disguised threat. Many malicious worms, adware, spyware infections, and trojans target and spread across P2P files sharing networks because of their known vulnerabilities. In addition, many current P2P networks are being used to trade pirated software and media illegally.

Here's what you can do to remove them:
Check Add/Remove Programs again via Control Panel. If any entry for the program is there, remove it.
For Vista users click Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features to access the add/remove programs applet. For those using the classic control panel view, click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features to access it.
Windows XP: If it's not in Add/Remove Programs, open Task Manager by right-clicking your desktop taskbar and selecting it. Choose the Processes tab. Look for the P2P executable file. Highlight it by clicking on it once, then click the End Process button on the bottom right. You'll get a warning box but just turn it off anyway. Close Task Manager.
Vista: If it's not in Add/Remove Programs, open Task Manager by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. Choose the Processes tab. Look for program’s executable file. Highlight it by clicking on it once, then click the End Task button at the bottom. You'll get a warning box but just turn it off anyway. Close Task Manager.

Hello Bugbatter,
Thank you very much. I was looking for any P2P on my PC, but I did not find anything. I would searched under the Program and Features and found none. I am doing something wrong?

BugBatter,
I know you have warned against P2P file sharing in the past, but what if you disabled the optiont hat let you share your files with other people and disabled it from starting at start up. Would you still be at threat? I use Limewire and I haven't had a problem that I know of yet.
