Have run three programs (AdWare, Spyhunter, and Spybot S&D) to remove software that generates a lot of nuisance pop-ups. But this does not work. Have traced problem to a couple of files like "ibexpat.dll." But I cannot delete manually - these program are protected somehow and won't delete.
What is the process to unprotect these files so I can manually delete?
Any other suggestions ?
Thanks,
Pete
Pete,
The best thing you can do is use hijackthis to make sure that all is OK and then delete the files in safe mode. Create a folder on your hard drive called c:\hjt. Download hijackthis here to it and unzip it there. Run hijackthis.exe and scan your system. Save a log and post it here for one of us to look at.
He should also get rid of Spyhunter. It's spyware, not a spyware remover. I've seen reports where it even *invents* spyware that it found in order to entice the user to purchase the program to clean it.
My spware does the same thing but I rarely get pop ups anymore....what I do get it hi-jacked home pages still....two in particular...zestyfind.com and turnontheredlight.com these are very bothersome and come up everyday....any suggestions....I already blocked them in my privacy settig but it doesn't do anything....
You need to do the same thing. Download and run hijackthis per the directions in my previous post. Then start a new thread for your post. Don't post back in this thread because it will get vey confusing.

BBlackie,
I understand about Spyhunter. I was waiting to see a log.
