I downloaded the Tune Up the other night and now my computer won't boot up. Spoke with the Dell Service representative with limited assistance. He kept trying to convince me to reformat! Ran a diagnostic and came up with several partition related errors. Try going through the Symptom Tree Route to diagnose your problem. I uncovered several error messages which I am hoping Dell can address/fix. Most sound serious, such as "uncorrectable data error or media is write protected". Error code 0F00:0244. The service rep is supposed to call be back at noon today. Will let you know how I make out. I couldn't even get my pc to run in Safe Mode!

I ran the Dell PC Tune-up as well the other night and am having issues.  I am not positive if that is the source, but I am going to do a system restore to a point before I ran it and see if it clears up the issues.  I'll keep you guys posted on how it works out.

Running the DELL Automated PC Tune Up made unwanted changes to my computer. I was able to do a system restore but the program is still on my computer.   Does anyone know how to remove the Automate PC Tune Up.  In the control panel under ad/remove programs it does not appear.

Hello. Can you please take me through the steps that you went through to recover your system? I've spent many hours with Dell and am unable to recover mine. I would greatly appreciate it since the Dell Technician is so ineffective at solving my problem.

Thank you.

Follow this sequence:

All Programs --- accessories --- system tools --- system restore

After you click on system restore follow the instructions.

Thanks for your quick advice, but I cannot get my computer to boot up in order to get to All Programs, unless you can tell me how to get there from the C: prompt??????? I can get this far with the operating system. Thanks again.

It has got to be the source. I d not think this is a coincidence. My feeling is that there is some disgrunteled employee at DEll that is passing a virus through this tool or a phish is going out on the tool. Regardless, I have learned my lesson and will never download software from Dell again.

I had to pay $69.00 to some company to recover some of my files. This is really, really bad software by Dell. As a result, I will never buy a Dell PC again.

Dell PC Tuneup also caused some problems for me...   after running the Dell PC Tune-up utility, my Dimension E310 desktop system's network runs about 10% as fast as it did before the Dell PC TuneUp utility...   Other than the network speed slowdown, the rest of the system seems fine.

Now the online steaming video for some classes I'm taking times out.  It was working fine before I ran the PC Tune-up utility.

The utility sets a system restore point, but doesn't allow me to restore to anything before the utility ran.  :-(

I ran the Windows Live OneCare utility as suggested above, but that didn't fix the problem.

I installed everything Windows Update suggested, including IE7, but that also did not fix the problem.

My other Dell system (Latitude D620) on the same network is still running at "normal" speed, and I haven't made any system configuration changes for months, so I'm pretty sure the slowdown is due to the Dell PC Tuneup utility.

Need some expert help on this.  Any suggestions out there?

I've had exactly the same problem; downloaded and ran Tune-up last night and today I got the blue screen and error messages.  I've also been unable to do anything about it because safe mode doesn't let me do anything - just runs lists of data.  Dell troubleshooters suggest either a reinstall using PC restore, or a new hard drive!  I will have to contact Dell tomorrow but would like to hear if anyone has had any success in uninstalling this program.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I spent over 4 hours with Dell who advised me to take my computer to a data recovery service provider to try to recover my data as the only solution to the problem is to reformat the drive. This is an unacceptable answer to THEIR problem, but I took my unit to a local service shop and they told me that the corruption of my hard drive was excessive and they were only able to retrieve about 60% of my data. I will pick it up tomorrow and they advised that the fee will be between $350-400! And there is no guarantee that the original hard drive is fully functional! They said that they could not just copy files because each file contained a certain amount of corruption which required a lot of attention.

I'm going to insist that Dell reimburse me for this cost as they refused to send a Dell technician to my home to perform the data recovery and reinstall of the operatring system. Their "technical" support in India is absolutely dismal and I insisted to speak with some one who had a commanding knowledge of the Engliush language. I finally got someone who I could communicate with, but all they wnated to try to do is reinstall the drivers which Microsoft told me was impossible given the level of corruption that was caused by Dell's PC Tune Up download. By the way, Microsoft was very professional and concerned and tried to instruct me through some repairs, but none worked. They advised that once Dell installs their "upgrades" to the OS, then they really cannot undo what they (Dell) have done.

Sorry for the bad news, but Dell stinks and won't accept responsibility for a problem that THEY created!

Goos luck!

I had a horrible feeling someone was going to say that!  I think I'd better try the same route, though and phone their extortionate helpline, as it's just too easy for them to say it's not their problem; I hope if they have enough complaints we might be able to get them to accept responsibility. If I have any luck at all I'll post something here and let people know.

I seem to have been very lucky, though it has still cost me.  I rang the Presto helpline (this is in the UK; I don't know how it works elsewhere).  The guy there was very helpful (though dismissive of my suggestion that it had been caused by Tune-up). He talked me through several diagnostic programs and helped me get Recovery Console open and from there I ran CHKDSK.  I don't know how much damage there was, but I started running it at 3 pm, by the time I went to work this morning it had reached 71%, and it finished some time while I was at work!  When I exited RC, it gave me the same "recovered from an error" screen, I hit "Start Windows Normally" and it then decided to run CHKDSK again , which took a few minutes - then it restarted quite normally.  No problems yet, but I haven't had a chance to check all my files.  Like others, I can see no way of deleting Tune-up, so would still be interested if anyone has found a way.

DELL STINKS. End of Story. I hope their stock price goes to 0. They had to be greedy. being # 1 in computer sales is not enough.
